Kim Parker Home Designs
By Michelle
Kim Parker has been able to parlay her popular floral paintings into home style, as her unique artistic look is contagious to all that come across it. Parker has seen a fair amount of success and acclaim in the past several years. However, the real success may be rising up against the odds in the very competitive world of interior design— especially with no formal design training to speak of.
Parker left behind a promising career as a classical flutist and launched her home brand in 2001. Since then she has been on a steady rise of popularity and in high demand. Parker has worked with Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s and became a bestseller, the first designer brand to achieve bestseller status in the retailer’s bedding department. The Kim Parker Home Collection includes designer rugs, dinnerware, giftware, bedding, bath, fabrics, decorative pillows, stationery and wall art.
Parker’s style is stand-alone with vibrant signature colors that can make any drab room into a delightful garden. It is no surprise that Parker says, “Designing is a very joyful process for me. I love working with rich and exuberant hues, whether for a rug, a pillow, a dinner plate, bedding collection, or canvas. When I design anything, it’s a very organic and free exploration.”
Frida’s garden pillow retails for $180 at KimParker.tv, the Orange Dahlias print retails for $40 at Art.com, and the bestselling, iconic and design winning rug “Mums and Asters” starts at $2500 and is sold exclusively at The Rug Company in Los Angeles at 8202 Melrose Avenue. For other Rug Company locations throughout the world please visit TheRugCompany.com or for more information about Kim Parker you can visit KimParker.tv.

Fluxus at Brentwood Gardens
By Michelle
The Fluxus brand was launched in 2006 by Martin Paquette and is Los Angeles-based and produced. Its look is inspired by the experimental Fluxus art movement of the 1960’s and is best known for basic layering and soft knit pieces. The label may also sound familiar as it is carried at high-end retailers such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, H. Lorenzo and Fred Segal.
In the past three years Fluxus has seen a whirlwind of success and has made some important additions this year. This past Spring a flagship store was opened in Larchmont, Project Runway Season 3 winner Jeffery Sebelia was brought on as Head Designer and most recently Fluxus opened a second location at Brentwood Gardens. Tommy’s: A Charity for Baby
By Michelle
Currently in the UK 1 out of 4 women lose a baby during pregnancy or birth; in response to this statistic the Tommy’s charity was established last year. Through the Tommy’s organization medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage are funded. An informational service is also provided to educate parents about health in pregnancy.
Now in progress is Tommy’s New for Old campaign which asks people to drop off old shoes they no longer want to Brantano stores. Each pair of old shoes donated— no matter their condition, Brantano will give 10p to Tommy’s to help babies in the UK. Also, for every pair of shoes donated the contributors will receive a £10 off voucher when they spend £50 or more, plus the old shoes collected go to help African communities. This is a charity worth supporting as it is a win-win for everyone involved. For more information about Tommy’s please visit Tommy’s.org

A Royal Affair
By Michelle
Atlanta based PR firm Sapphire Ink recently hosted an event to boost the confidence of nine teenage girls. The event, A Royal Affair featured hair stylists from the Hair Artistry Studio who created easy to maintain styles, and wardrobe stylist Lakeisha Massey who gave the girls their very own signature looks. Each girl was then professionally photographed by Studio B’s Rebecca Einslien. This remarkable event was made possible by the countless donations from private contributors and various boutiques. The girls were also provided with a completely new wardrobe, compliments of A Royal Affair.
Founders of Sapphire Ink PR, Tiffany Cadogan and Lisa Nwachukwu are thankful for the community support— Tiffany says, “I truly appreciate Design Faze, Bee-Hive, Jibri, Kickboard Koutoure, Joma’Fashions, and everyone that made A Royal Affair possible. Sapphire Ink will definitely organize the event again because when you step out on faith, everything falls into place.”
Looks like Tiffany and Lisa are also due for a pat on the back, as this event would not have been possible without them, so thank you ladies. For more about Sapphire Ink PR, please visit SapphireInkPR.com

Madonna: Raising Malawi
By Michelle
Celebs have become philanthropists by spreading their fortunes to communities that are in dire need of assistance. One such place Malawi, Africa with an approximate population of 12 million, has been favored by Madonna. When the Pop Queen learned of the need there through a friend of a friend, Victoria Keelan and a native of Malawai, Madonna began her quest.
After Madonna’s first visit in 2006 she adopted a daughter Mercy, then age 3 and created her charity Raising Malawi. The objective of the foundation is to help feed, educate and provide medical care for some of the orphans, as more than 500,000 children have been orphaned due to AIDS.
Last year Madonna went back to Malawi and adopted David then age 4, and more recently began a new project— The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. The Academy is expected to be done in 2011 and its purpose is to raise future female leaders. The school will admit 500 girls from 28 districts of small southern African communities. Madonna’s most recent trip took place last week, as she was there to oversee the launch of the school and plant a young tree in celebration of the good things to come. We applaud Madonna in her quest and will keep you posted on other such philanthropic journeys. For more information about this foundation please visit RaisingMalawi.org
