Social Diary: L.A. Bound
By Natacha
That’s right as of this weekend I have packed up my things and moved to the southern California oasis that is Los Angeles! After four fun-filled years in my beloved NYC, I decided I was in need of change (and a serious tan) and packed up my life.
Although, I have been an Angelino since birth, I look forward to rediscovering this sun savvy city and the little nooks and crannies in between. Already this week I stumbled upon this amazing furniture mecca in Culver City. To a girl with a barren apartment, I thought I had reached the seventh level of Nirvana.
Apparently, I wasn’t the first to know about this either, the likes of Naomi Watts, Selena Gomez and Julia Roberts have all been spotted at this furniture haven. My favorite store was this massive emporium, H.D. Buttercup. From chic, art deco tables to cozy, corn
er sofas, I literally had to restrain myself. I finally settled on a few less expensive, decorative pieces that I knew would look great in my place.
I can’t wait to scour the city for more amazing finds, but for now it’s off to Zuma Beach in Malibu to catch up on some of those much-needed rays of sunshine and hopefully a few classic celeb sightings!

Social Diary: Luck of the Sale
By Natacha

Every girl loves a good sample sale. And what does a girl love even more than finding a killer deal at a sale? Scoring that deal for free!
Regardless of the lines, screaming women and occasional bag fight I can’t seem to resist a sample sale! This weekend I found myself knee-deep in colorful Rebecca Minkoff totes and classic Abaete shift dresses. Upon making my purchases I was asked if I wanted to enter a raffle to win a bag of my choice. Obviously I put my name down and scampered off to a quick brunch with friends. I returned an hour later for the drawing and believe or not, I won!
I could not think of a better way to start my weekend! The tough part now was choosing which bag I wanted…I wish all life’s decisions were this difficult! After much deliberation and input from fellow shoppers, my friends and the sales people, I finally decided on this amazing neon yellow ostrich tote. I literally can fit my whole life in it and still look chic!

Social Diary NYC: Pretty Little Pictures
By Natacha
Last Thursday I was lucky enough to find myself on a very special guided tour of the Society of Illustrators latest exhibit. Over the years it has laid tribute to some of New York’s most revolutionary artists.
“The Line of Fashion: Curated by Robert Richards,” shares sketches from some of the most famous fashion illustrators of the past century. From ideas for Halston’s very first collections, to Versace circa 1980, the exhibit gives us a wonderful chance to appreciate those who helped make fashion what it is today.
Katie’s father has been a dear friend of the curator, Robert Richards, for some time and he kindly offered us a tres privé tour of the exhibit. Dressed in a navy/sky blue patchwork suit, and thick, round b lack frame glasses, Robert is the epitome of art world eccentricity. His love for the exhibit shined with every piece’s description. Little did I know that my much beloved Vogue magazine, began as a book of fashion show illustration
s for high society ladies. Instead of photographers, they hired artists to sketch feverishly at presentations and then eventually had their sketches printed in the magazine!

After a lovely tour, I had to rush out because I had dinner reservations at Mario Batali’s restaurant du jour: Casa Mono! An hour later, including a quick outfit change and some reapplication, I found myself happily drinking Cava, Spain’s delightful equivalent to champagne. Between the savory Pumpkin and Goat Cheese croquettes, Jamon Iberico and melt-in-your-mouth Lamb Chops with chive cuajada, I was a very satisfied customer. Next time I go, I most definitely plan on sitting at the bar, not only can you have a bird’s eye view of your food being prepared, but the chefs doing all the work are not bad to look at either!

Social Diary: TGIF
By Natacha
Certainly feeling the TGIF buzz I decided I was in desperate need of girls night out filled with all the trimmings! After trying nearly thirty different outfits, and still feeling like I have nothing to wear (come on, I know we have ALL been there) I decided on a little purple dress I picked up from Intermix a few weeks ago. Hey, if you can’t go with a LBD (little black dress), I guess the next thing is a LPD. Pairing it with a killer pair of boots and layering a few necklaces, I finally felt ready to hit the town!

Sarah and I decided to meet at our friend, Elyssa’s, cozy East Village apartment for champagne and tid bits. After sharing our weekly woes with the group we decided to head to Kion, a funky little bar in Alphabet City. Although it doesn’t look like much from the outside, a level down you enter a cavern
ous dance floor stocked with Japanese-style mat dining area, techno lights and bar that has a constant stream of water running through it! Although the night started out tame enough, by 1am we were spinning on the dance floor with all our might; rocking out to Britney’s best singles and the occasional Flo Rida hit. Needless to say it was the perfect way to start my weekend!

Social Diary: Tribeca Film Festival
By Natacha
April 22nd marked the beginning of the increasingly pervasive Tribeca Film Festival. In between launch parties and promotional events, there is a schedule jam-packed with some of the year’s most magnetic films. Tonight, two friends and I were invited to screen one such film – the Oscar winner
for best foreign film: Departures.
Racing after work to preen and throw on some festival-appropriate attire, I met my friends Sarah and Caroline, with just minutes to spare. Although the theater was already crowded, we nestled ourselves in between some Hollywood hot shots and foreign journalists and tried to equally play the part. After a short introduction from the film’s lead actor, Mashahiro Motoki and director, Yojiro Takita, the screening began. Departures regales the story of a cellist who has suddenly lost his job and is forced to move back to his hometown in Northern Japan. Trying to make ends meet, he takes a job as “encoffiner,” or a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial and e
ntry into the next life. Against the wishes of his wife and frowns from fellow townspeople, he keeps his job and is taken on a heart-warming journey of self-discovery. Amidst funny anecdotes and touching scenes, Departures proves to be a culturally agnostic triumph, allowing everyone to find a little of their own lives in the characters of the film.
After shedding a few (happy) tears and sharing several laughs, the screening came to a close. My friends and I stuck around for the Q&A session after the film, “hob-knobbing” with all the film types. Once we felt we could small-talk no more, we all decided to it call it a night and retired to the comfort of our own personal screening rooms: our apartments.
Alas, another wonderful New York City night!

Social Diary: The Good, the Bad and the Bunny
By Natacha
When the sun shines high, New Yorkers come out to play. That means the good, the bad, and apparently the bunny. On my way to brunch yesterday, I found this fun furry creature walking the streets, going about his daily business. I think someone forgot to tell him, Easter was about two weeks ago… Regardless, I couldn’t help but smile and think just how amazing this city is. He got a few odd looks, but people just kept walking. It takes all types to make this world go round, and apparently some of them live in Manhattan!
After my little distraction, I headed to one of my favorite brunch places,Felix, in the heart of Soho. Perched on the patio, I found myself in the perfect position for people watching and style stalking.
Amidst mimosas and French toast, Caitlin and I found ourselves ogling beautiful European tourists, and unsuccessfully trying to flag them down.
Finally, we gave up and relinquished ourselves to a day of Soho store-hopping. I bought this great dress at one of my favorite Manhattan stores: Wink. The ruffles are so feminine yet chic, I just couldn’t turn it down! I can’t wait to pair it with a pair of bright summer pumps and some
funky jewelry. No doubt it will become one of my summer staples.
The best part about the store is that their website (www.WinkNYC.com), is just as chic and you don’t have to wait in line!!

Social Diary NYC: Come Rain, or Shine
By Natacha
Even though the sky decided to pour, I wasn’t going to let the weather bog me down. My dad was in town for the night and I was determined to have a delightful evening filled with good food and nostalgic conversation. Since we both have a great love for “hole-in-the-walls,” I decided to take him to this tiny Japanese restaurant in the East Village. Nestled on the corner of St. Marks and 3rd Ave, you’ll find some of the most authentic Japanese the city has to offer. Not everyone speaks English and to read the menu might require some squinting (its on the wall!), but the food comes fast and is always delicious. Between Japanese egg pancakes, salty skewers and savory spare ribs, we were stuffed and headed to the ever-swank Mercer Hotel for dessert and a digestif.
Three flights down and one industrial elevator later, we entered the clandestine world of subMercer . Not being able to tell the models from the waitress, we siddled up to the bar and placed our order. Although I was undeniably distracted by the devishly handsome bartender, I managed to continue on conversation just long enough to realize that Sir Anthony Hopkins was sitting two chairs over. That’s the beauty of New York, it can be a dreary Monday night and your world is still sparkling.
