New Logo, Continued Luxury for Intermix
By Sophie
It is a new logo that reminds us of the fashion-forward boutique, Intermix. With 24 locations nationwide, the luxury retail haven continues to give clients a unique shopping experience.
Blending art, fashion and beauty, the new Intermix ads illustrate the company’s ability to combine all things luxurious with a staff that is prepared to help shoppers find exactly what they need to look chic.
“We wanted the ad campaign to continue to be playful and optimistic, as the first one was, and to incorporate the idea of the marriage of art and fashion,”Khajak Keledjian, CEO of Intermix, said.
“The modernity that we are infusing into these changing aspects is part of us growing as a brand, alongside the attitudes of the consumer.”
The new design was created by ORPHAN, a design company best know for its work with high-end fashion companies such as Thakoon and Hugo Boss.

Milly jewelry to hit stores soon
By Sophie
Ecclectic and charismatic in form, the new Milly jewelry line from designer Michelle Smith has it all. Set to premiere in the beginning of February, the jewelry collection features “a mix of 18 karat-plated gold, crystal, acrylic and enamel.”
Already a clothing designer, a jewelry collection seemed like an inevitable next step for Smith.
“I have been collecting jewelry for years as it has always been a passion of both mine and my mother’s,” Smith said.
“In addition to a personal love for jewelry, it was a natural next step for us as my clothes are known for luxe embellishments and trims.”
The collection can be seen in fine retailers and boutiques starting next month. Prices range from $85-$325.
For more information see Milly.

Feel good about cotton, wear Eka
By Sophie
The Cotton jingle perhaps says it best when it comes to our consumption of cotton; “the touch, the feel of cotton, the fabric of our lives.” But most of our cotton comes from impoverished workers in third world or developing countries.
Well, now we can thank globalization and the fair trade movement for bringing back cotton in a positive way. Eka is a cotton accessories company (think warm scarves and mittens) that participates in fair trade, giving their cotton growers in India health insurance and a livelihood.
Grown by BioRe in Auroville, India, Eka is helping workers support their families and learn how to operate an eco-friendly business. The small town of Auroville has been transformed by the environmentally-minded cotton workers. The progress is certain to grow in years to come.
In the meantime, purchasing the chic accessories from Eka can help continue the positive growth. The hats and scarves come in bright colors and charming designs and are terribly affordable.
For purchasing information, see Eka.

Chinese filmmaker shows Prada in 'First Spring'
By Sophie
Chinese filmmaker and artist, Yang Fudong, has recently collaborated with the esteemed couture company, Prada. In his film, ‘First Spring,’ Fudong portrays a film noire with hints of ancient mysticism.
In the film men walk the streets of Shanghai wearing Prada menswear as Chinese women dance and are dressed in mixtures of couture and traditional attire.
Fudong claims that the film is based on the Chinese proverb that states,”the whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring.” This film certainly portrays that good start, with its fresh take on an old fashion stand-by.
Whimsical and refreshing, ‘First Spring’ is unlike any other film out there.

Accessorize like the Stars in B. Rawlings Jewelry
By Sophie
Elegantly-draped necklaces and gorgeous bangles grace the red carpet as celebrities like Vanessa and Angela Simmons wear B. Rawlings Jewelry. Exquisite in shape and form, B. Rawlings Jewelry collection incorporates elaborate beading and sleek gold chains that keep stars, and fashion lovers, coming back for more.
Similar to some of the tribal looks on the runways, accessories from B. Rawlings Jewelry are unique, statement pieces. As Vanessa’s chic black dress proves, simple attire is the best compliment to the ornate layered beaded necklaces.
One of the highlights of the collection is a striking, layered necklace made of lemon topaz, hematite and 14k gold. It is particularly stunning against the background of a little black dress. With its intricate beading and gorgeous detail, this necklace commands attention in every way.
The bracelets from B. Rawlings are just as mesmerizing. Oversized stones and gems are strung onto 14k gold links that can be worn alone or in multiples.
For purchasing information, visit B. Rawlings.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Spring 2010
By Sophie
When I think crazy fun Spring fashion, I think Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Always mixing it up, and always making a splash- Jean-Charles has made Spring and Summer-wear funky again.
Pirates! Parrots! Paradise! was essentially the theme of his latest collection. Models in tons of white, with big elements of color, walked graciously down the Fall runway. But it certainly does not end there.
Recently, Jean-Charles opened new flagship stores around the world. No doubt these stores will facilitate the rise of trendy, over-the-top accessories and brightly colored basics, making the androgenous knits of Fall old news.
For more information, see Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.

A European Spring, with Rick Owens
By Sophie
One Californian turned designer extraordinaire has given us something to love about Spring. Fitted jackets circa 1999 are reminiscent of what made designer Rick Owens stand out years ago.
Now a Parisian, Owens combines artistic flexibility with regimented pieces. Ultimately a very euro collection, his Spring 2010 items make for investment pieces that are sure to be in your closet for many seasons to come. They are translatable into many different arenas and would look chic and fabulous everywhere from Berlin to Tokyo.
For purchasing information, visit Rick Owens.
