Olympic Pride–Canuck Style

By Zoe

We love our girls in skates—especially the hockey gals! And what better way to show Canadian pride (Team Canada just bit gold last night after winning 2-0 to the U.S.—their third straight in a row!!), than with some cute fashion finds.

For a limited time, Rockport and Zappos teamed up to create a limited edition Lorraine boot, a collaboration with Olympic and World Champion gold medalist and former Canadian Women’s hockey captain Cassie Cambell-Pascall.

The white rain boot sports a fashionable platform wedge with a red Canadian Maple leaf on the front. The rain boot is waterproof and boats adidas adiPrene technology – meaning the boot has shock-absorption and cushioning in the sole. If you love the boot don’t wait, there will only be 2,000 pairs produced, 1,500 of which will be numbered.

The Lorraine boots costs only $120, and to purchase go here.

High Fashion meets high society

By Zoe

I thought I saw it all last week. During a Caribbean sojourn late one night, I was traipsing the channels and stumbled on MTV’s hoopla of a program for Puff Daddy’s 16 year-old, and the events surrounding his “super  sixteen” party. Mini Puffy was ushered towards his massive crowd, after a very P-Ditty video intro, on a throne complete with crown and sceptre.

I’m not sure if I went projectile from the copious amounts of champagne along with Appleton and Diet Cokes, or if it was the show itself. I’m hoping, and pretty darn sure, this will not be the case with CW’s new creation, High Society.

The newest reality show on the same network that brings us Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries and 90210, among others, will follow self-proclaimed “Park Avenue Princess” Tinsley Mortimer and her posh posse as they gallivant Manhattan’s most prestigious black-tie affairs, outrageous parties and fashion exclusives, and obvs, never-before-seen access from behind the velvet rope.

For the premiere Tinsley wore Jose Duran, a definite rising star in New York’s fashion scene. His vibrant colored satins and wool crepes always show off as beautiful prêt a porter. He says his inspiration derives from a church massacre that occurred in his hometown during the Haitian revolution.

Catch High Society on Wednesday March 10, 9:30 pm to 10 pm EST after the 90-minute premiere of America’s Next Top Model.

For more information on High Society go to www.cwtv.com.

Katy Perry’s puuuurfect tee

By Zoe

Some may say songstress Katy Perry is the cat’s meow. And now she wears that moniker on her sleeve, errrrr, ummm, top we mean.

But beyond the frisky feline connotation, Perry actually was wearing Trash & Luxury Cat’s Meow tee last week in L.A. This fun fierce top won’t totally break the bank, and completely looks stylin’ for the gym, yoga or playing Wii chez vous.

Perry wore the top with Capri style leggings and runners, but you could pass it off with cute boyshorts or cigarette jeans. Whatever the choice, it’ll all look hot with this print of Julie Newmar as Catwoman.

For more info on Trash & Luxury and where to purchase, go to www.trashandluxury.com.

American Eagle Summer 2010 Collection

By Zoe

Even though frigid winds dominate the East Coast, American Eagle already has summer on its mind with their new collection. The American Eagle brand that many associate with is growing up—the women’s collection has more boyfriend cut pieces, batwing silhouettes, floral patterns, and casual bohemian tastes.

Also finding themselves in the shift from walking advertisements to tasteful matching and sharp styles is the men’s collection that features fun graphics and hip shorts for the summertime.

Fans of the aerie line are about to be rewarded with the botanical and aerie color lines set to release in April. The botanical line features hand creams, body butters, body lotions, body washes and scrubs, and fragrance mists in flavorful scents, such as fresh citrus and papaya, and apple blossom and cucumber.

The key element to note about the line is its richness in antioxidants and vitamin E, as well as a natural approach where ingredients like parabens, petrolatum and synthetic dyes are all eliminated. The aerie color line also spotlights botanical extracts in shades that are sure to compliment any skin color with their glosses, liners, eyeshadows, and mascaras.

Hernan Lander Presentation at OpenHouse Gallery

By Zoe

On Friday, Feburary 12, champagne and wine glasses clinked together in celebration of Hernan Lander’s fall/winter collection. Interestingly enough, the young Dominican Republic born designer opted for the use of mannequins to display his clothing as opposed to models. The mannequins provided an emphasis on the pieces themselves and anonymity of the person wearing the look.

His philosophy emphasized how anyone could wear these chic pieces.

Admirers of the collection tweeted in delight and posted BlackBerry pics of favorite pieces. One highlight was the slim-fit cropped fur jacket worn atop a high-collar purple blouse and paired with skinny black jeans. Another was a silver dress adorned with snakeskin.

Not only has Lander created pieces that are well tailored, he was able to construct a bold style of serious high taste.

Prabal Gurung Fall/Winter 2010

By Zoe

The anticipation and excitement of Singapore-born Nepalese Prabal Gurung’s catwalk debut ran high at the Bryant Park tents on February 13th. The models walked confidently and boldly down the runway in Gurung’s play on positive and negative space.

With hair pinned high and slicked back, the models revealed a collection dominated by shades of blacks, whites, reds and greens. With fabric floating over their bodies, the volume in folds, along with the close-bodied designs of the dresses all completely complimented the female figure. Runway notables included a black hooded sweater highlighted in red and cinched by a black belt and fur adorned outerwear.

Despite donning the black shades, Wintour broke her stoic demeanour and cracked a smile when a jacket adorned with fur passed by. With such approval, this surely will not be the last viewing of Prabal Gurung’s creations.
