Mark Townsend Styles January Jones
By Leah
Matrix’s celebrity stylist Mark Townsend assisted “Mad Men’s” January Jones for the 2009 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20, 2009. According to Townsend, “Working with January for any event is always going to be fun and inspiring.”
Townsend’s inspiration for Jones was her embellished Atelier Versace gown. He proclaims, “While getting January ready, we had the dress hanging close by so I could see it while doing January’s hair, and that proved to be the inspiration for her overall look.”
For Jones’s hair Townsend used Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel ($16) while it was damp blow drying it with a medium round brush. He then sectioned it pulling and pinning it back one section at a time. He created a textured chignon and used Vavoom Shape Maker Hairspray ($17) for hold, allowing for a few loose pieces to fall forward to catch the light and give her a more fashionable look.

New York's Fashion Week Spring 2010: Clé de Peau Beauté at Vera Wang
By Leah
Vera Wang did her Spring 2010 collection channeling French designer Paul Poiret, who according to ‘the fashion world’ was the initial designer to ‘drape’ his designs. Carrying this over into the beauty, Wang used Clé de Peau Beauté’s Color Creator, Lucia Pieroni to create a simplistic, boy-like, look to compliment her clothing and bold jewelry.
Pieroni explains the style was to appear healthy, but a bit supernatural. “I wanted the models to appear cool and very natural, so I created a super sheer base on the face with eye accents only, of taupe and silver.”
Using the Clé de Peau Beauté Luminizing Enhancer Base ($42,) Pieroni evened out skin tone and made a radiant finish on skin with Refining Fluid Foundation ($118).
Next, she gave brows a full polished effect by accenting and extending them using Eyebrow Pencil in #104/Grey ($55). She made eyes pop with the Satin Eye Color in #11/silver ($45,) and a bit of shade #111/taupe for definition. Pieroni left out mascara and liner, but used Satin Eye Color #104/golden to highlight the brow bone and the cheeks for some glow.
Lips were done in a subdued Extra Rich Lipstick in T4 ($65,) a nude shade inspired by tea roses.
Lucia Pieroni is a premier make-up artist with world-wide experience who’s been a Color Creator with Clé de Peau Beauté since 2005.
The aforementioned Clé de Peau Beauté Spring 2010 products will debut in March 2010 at Bergdorf Goodman and select Barney’s, Neiman Marcus and Saks locations nationwide.

MAC & Rodarte Do Tattoo’s for Spring 2010
By Leah
Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte decided to uniquely accessorize their Spring 2010 Collection using MAC makeup artists alongside their stellar talents. The design duo collaborated with MAC senior artist Chantel Miller and key artist James Kaliardos to create a Maori-inspired geometric tattoo-look. According to Miller, “The idea for the tattoos stemmed from Kate and Laura’s desire to celebrate makeup as art not only for the face, but also for the body in a similar way that Indian culture uses henna. They want women to look at makeup as an accessory for an outfit the way you would a bracelet or a necklace.”
After much collaboration four different full sleeves, one neck and eight half-sleeves of makeup-styled ink totaled 13 creations, all of which evoked feelings of a futuristic tribe. When the time came to bring the designs to life, it took forty artists and four hours to hand paint the body art onto the models. Miller said, “Application is key to creating a body art look like this, so the brushes play an essential part.”
Rodarte’s combined forces with MAC certainly are a perfect example of how artistic collaboration can bring a collection to life on the catwalk.

Backstage Hair a la Charlotte Ronson Spring 2010
By Leah
AVON Lead stylist Allen Ruiz alongside designer Charlotte Ronson, did the hair look for the Spring 2010 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
La inspiration comes via a remake of 80’s style made to mimic a pretty-young-thing of a gal that, “just walked out of dance class at Julliard”, to play off the fabrics and bold designs of Charlotte Ronson.
And why a bun will be all the rage come Spring 2010. According to Ruiz, “Spring is all about wearing your hair up and away from your face. Radiate confidence and positive energy by styling your bun so it looks finished, yet slightly disheveled …a bun creates a youthful, fresh look that is easy to achieve!”

Ruiz’s tips for the look:
Step 1: Prep hair from root to tip with AVON Advance Techniques Salon Volume Finishing Spray ($3.99) to enhance natural shine and create volume.
Step 2: Using the AVON Advance Techniques Paddle Brush ($12.99) and hair dryer, distribute the Advance Techniques Salon Volume Finishing Spray ($3.99) by sectioning off the hair and blow-drying to ensure that there is a natural, soft texture.
Step 3: Next, gather the hair tight to form a ponytail at the back crown of the head and secure with a ponytail holder keeping all sides flat.
Step 4: Holding hair at the base of the ponytail, twist the hair firmly in one direction to form a kink into a spiral. Secure with bobby pins.
Step 5: On the sides, using the little hairs “muse” the wispy hairs to play up the natural texture.
Step 6: Lightly spray AVON Advance Techniques Hair Spray ($3.99) to complete the style and hold it in place.
