Issey Miyake: Fall/Winter 2010 Men's Collection
By Samantha
The Issey Miyake design team debuted the Fall/Winter 2010 Collection Thursday in Paris. As eager attendees wait on the outside, the unsuspecting spectators would soon be welcomed into the coffee-house inspired showroom as conceptualized by creative director, Dai Fujiwara. Complete with an espresso bar installed specifically for this season’s event, this only further set the stage for the fashions that facilitate an easy transition from work day, to lazy weekend.
With the Miyake Design studio entering its 40th year this year, the Japanese label did not disappoint with edgy fashions that prove innovative and come riddled with harmonious fusions of texture, color and graphic detailing.
Chunky scarves, vibrant caps, suede shoes, even aprons, are donned by the models as they further sanction the necessary garb for any languid weekend. Double breasted sport jackets, collarless woven shirts and grandpa sweaters frequent the runway, leaving even the audience’s most attention getting, male-fashionistas gaping and wanting more.
No other salon du café in the city could contend with this eloquent tutorial on how to progressively take any frenzied work week down a notch to the tranquilities of a much needed, relaxing weekend. Miyake gives a java infused jolt to Paris’ four day extravaganza of menswear shows, both good, to the last drop.

POSHGLAM's Best Dressed at The People's Choice Awards
By Samantha
The 2010 People’s Choice Awards just ended, and the fashion’s were as fabulous as the event. From cocktail attire to ballgowns, sexy to conservative, starlets made a glamorous statement.
Country-cutie Taylor Swift was the picture of perfection in her “winter white” ensemble, with just enough shimmer in her Jenny Packham dress, Neil Lane earrings and bracelet, Odette ring and Christian Louboutin pumps.
Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger wowed the crowd in her curve hugging David Meister dress and Loree Rodkin jewels.
The other country darling Carrie Underwood went for a more edgy look, and it was definitely a winning one. The singer paired her stunning Christian Cota frock with Rock and Republic “Paulina” heels, a Lauren Merkin clutch and jewelry by Johnathan Arndt.
Always classic and chic, Taraji P. Henson did not disappoint in her vintage-inspired Alberta Ferretti gown and dazzling, ornate jewelry.
Young Disney sensation Demi Lovato looked age appropriate, and absolutely charming in her Jenny Packham dress, Rene Caovilla dress and clutch and Carrera y Carrera and Le Vian baubles.
We have to give major credit to fashion maven Diane Kruger. The actress paired her Herve Leger number with accessories from none other than H&M, a recessionista after our own hearts.
Kate Walsh was glittering perfection from head to toe in her Sarni Vintage Dress from Decades (that she picked up earlier that day) and some pretty fierce Casadei Signature Triple Platform Pumps.
Fashion chameleon Olivia Wilde tried out a new look in her Monique Lhullier dress and Fleurette jewels, and I am definitely a fan.
A-list movie star Nicole Kidman sat by her man and looked charming, elegant and edgy in her L’Wren Scott pant-suit, Jimmy Choo heels and her own jewelry. And a quick shout-out has to be given to classic comedian
Cloris Leachman, who showed up smiling in style despite her injury. Love! So many celebrities graced the red carpet at the People’s Choice Awards, and these are POSHGLAM’s favorite looks from the night. But the month of awards shows has just begun, so stay tuned for more glamorous fashion.

POSHGLAM Hosts Hot Pink Carpet at GlamourGals Event
By Samantha

GlamourGals is an organization that proves women of all ages are the same when it comes to their love of beauty, makeup and being pampered. Started 10 years ago by founder Rachel Doyle, the organization is a group of teen girls that work together with elderly women to not only keep them company, but to learn and bond with them. Each month teenage volunteers visit senior homes to beauty and pamper women residents. Volunteers range from California all the way to Scotland.
Recently, POSHGLAM hosted the Hot Pink Carpet for the GlamourGals 6th Annual Leadership Training Institute. Over 74 volunteers came to the Helen Mills Event Space to celebrate and learn from female leaders in the media, beauty and finance fields.
Keynote speaker was Hearst Corporation’s Director of Entertainment, Lauren Ruotolo who lives and works with McCune-Albright syndrome. She referred to the volunteers as “angels” to the elderly women. Other speakers included Achelle Dunaway, Creative Director of e.l.f. Cosmetics, Melissa Meyers, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of AskMelissa and Caryn Zweig and Chief Operating Operator of Abner, Herman & Brock. The girls also participated in a Beauty Blogger Luncheon, sponsored by Tossed and Hint Water, in which beauty bloggers sat to answer questions about the industry. At the end volunteers were able to do “America’s Next Top Model”-like photo shoots on the Hot Pink Carpet, where singer/songwriter Nadine Loren conducted interviews.

GlamourGals is a fabulous organization, and POSHGLAM was pleased to give the amazing high school volunteers a chance to strut their stuff on the Hot Pink Carpet. For more information, visit GlamourGals.

Diamonds, Skulls, and Bullets
By David
December 8th marked the one-year anniversary of Turkish jewelry design house, Atelier Minyon. When I stepped into the Soho flagship boutique to partake in the festivities and review the collection, I was surprised by what awaited me behind the glass doors. I felt almost as if I was instantly transported to a small shop nestled on a quiet street in Istanbul. Beautiful dark wooden cases filled with precious jewels covered warm stucco walls, an eclectic collection of unique lanterns hung gracefully from the ceiling, and one of the most beautifully tiled walls I’d ever seen stared at me from the back of the store.

Of course the main attraction of the evening was the exquisite assortment of mostly one-of-a-kind jewelry, which ranged from classic pearls strung between alternating diamonds, to rebellious rock-n-roll themed skulls covered in diamonds, rubies and semi-precious gems.

All hand-crafted in Turkey, other statement pieces included a breathtaking black and white diamond covered bullet pendant (my personal favorite), oxidized silver bear claw necklaces and earrings, and rustic looking keys made of silver, gold and diamonds.

As the crowd of mostly bloggers and fashionistas admired the design and construction of the museum-worthy accessories, the friendly boutique owners busied themselves by making sure all their guests were fed generously on delicious Turkish treats, and that their wine cups never fell below the half-way mark. As a parting gift, each attendee was given a beautiful, large hand-made wooden jewelry box from Turkey – another pleasant, and very generous, surprise. Located at 155 Spring Street, I suggest urge you to check out the stored during your next shopping excursion to Soho. Now I guess I’ll have to return to buy some jewels to put in my new box.
