MEN’S LUST VS. MUST BLACK & GOLD

By David

Black is back and more classic than ever, this is the color that’s tried and true, and appropriate all year round.

With accessories, it is paramount to build your collection with at least one or two pieces in black. If you’re limited on space and you’re a no frills man then your staple tote should be in a good solid black.

Lust: Mark Marmel Steamer bag $1410 Barneys.com

Must: Prospect Portfolio bag from Brooklyn Industries  $68 BrooklynIndustries.com

Outerwear is essential and even as the temperature is climbing consider a trench or simple peacoat with a military twist to protect you from the changing elements.

Lust: Apron Toe Venetian by Prada $595 Barneys.com

Phillip Lim Shows His Watch Love

By Samantha

For Fashion Week this season, Phillip Lim debuted his first ever menswear runway show for Fall/Winter 2010. 3.1 Phillip Lim has become an iconic fashion brand, known for its sleek comfort and chic versatility. The best part about the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection is that it is constantly trend-setting while staying classic, with pieces that are timeless with just enough edge to push a few fashion boundaries.

With this being his first ever men’s runway show, Phillip Lim turned to International Watch Company (IWC) to dress his models with timepieces that added the perfect compliment each outfit. Lim is a personal fan of the brand owning more than one style, and two of the styles he turned to for his show were the classic Portuguese Automatic and the Pilot’s Chronograph, amongst others.

The models on the runway looked preppy and smart, what more could a girl want? Other than secretly wishing her boyfriend would leave his 3.1 Phillip Lim clothes at her house for her to wear. With basic colors, the designer focused on fun, new silhouettes and stayed true to his timeless sophistication, with a unique attention to quality in each refined piece. And the watches definitely added the right amount of sizzle. Lim stated about the collaboration, “I love IWC because they are the watchmaker’s watch. They balance pragmatism, functionality and style like no other with the end result being masculine and timeless. And because they were originally developed for pilots, IWC watches are the perfect compliment to my Fall collection, which is about adventure.”

If Phillip Lim says the watches are a go, we are inclined to agree. And a watch that screams adventure, and seems to have so much history, is definitely one to wear everywhere.

Fall 2010 Heart Truth Red Dress Collection, Jessica Met Reggie Bush

By Jessica

“You gotta have heart.” That was the message at the Fall 2010 Heart Truth Red Dress Collection show, one that I look forward to every season!

The cause is as beautiful as the fashions: to raise awareness about heart disease, the #1 killer of women. Visit www.hearttruth.gov for
more information about the disease and what you can do to help! The fact that celebrities lent their star power to such a noble cause made the night even more positive.

Rewind to the beginning. After rushing to our third row seats right before the show started, my girlfriend and I were pleased to see my crush, Reggie Bush, seated in the front row, literally seconds away. To my friend’s horror and utter dismay, I had to go introduce myself. I mean, I was only singing his praises on POSHGLAM last week.

I went to say Hi and Congratulate him on the huge Superbowl win! I was pleased to discover that Reggie is kind and gracious, the perfect gentleman. He even posed for a picture (see below). All thoughts that I may be closer to that wedding were dashed when I realized he was there to support his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian. (I’m totally kidding! They’re cute together and I’m completely happy for them).

Though Reggie Bush caused quite a stir (someone behind me asked, “Is that 50 Cent?”), once the show started, all eyes were on the celebrity models.

And what a sight to see! Underneath chandeliers and with an adorable red and white set in the background, celebs stormed the catwalk in support of heart disease awareness.

Reality star, Bethenny Frankel, was an adorable, pregnant lady in Isabella Oliver.

Desperate Housewives actress, Felicity Huffman, walked out in Oscar de la Renta and took a moment to hug her husband, who was cheering her on in the front row.

Singer and new jewelry designer, Estelle, worked the catwalk in a lovely Zac Posen gown. Her purple eye make-up, courtesy of celebrity artist, A.J. Crimson, was the perfect accent.

The legendary actress, Joan Collins, walked out to applause in Stephanie Rolland.

Crooner, Jordin Sparks of American Idol fame showed off a svelte figure in a form-fitting Badgley Mischka gown.

The one-and-only Kim Kardashian was a radiant beauty in a Marchesa gown that showed off her famous curves. She worked it on the runway, stopping long enough to blow a kiss to Reggie in the front row.

Kimora Lee stormed the catwalk in a short, embellished dress from her new line, Kouture by Kimora.

Raven-Symone was the ultimate runway diva in Tadashi Shoji, even kicking off her shoes before making a dramatic exit to backstage.

The lovely actress, Regina King, sashayed down the runway in a one-shoulder Tracy Reese dress to to Alicia Keys’ “Put it in a Love Song.”

Newscaster, Robin Roberts walked out to thunderous applause in a  J.Crew Collection gown that highlighted her toned upper body.

Heart Truth Red Dress Collection fixture, Heidi Klum, stole the show in a gorgeous John Galliano gown. She’s even more beautiful in person!

After the runway show, I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Verdi and Micah Jesse, whose blog made our Top 25 list last year. I even got to see Wendy Williams, my favorite radio jock turned TV show host. The fun-filled fashion show was the perfect end to Day 1 of Fashion Week. Stay tuned for more insider coverage.

Paul Smith Spring Summer 2010

By David

No one’s quite like Paul Smith. The British dandy’s aesthetic is always non-traditional, always interesting and his ability to constantly gentrify fashion, as we know it, is what keeps him on top of his game. This summer, the collection is graceful and stylish, it re-renders classic menswear and simple pieces in a newfangled manner: crisp and clean contours define silhouettes with effortless shapes in bright hues. Salutes are made to David Byrne and David Bowie, where mod meets punk in perfect harmony.

The palette is dominated by solid blacks, navys and grays with loud splashes of color and silver. Club collared shirts are paired with ultra-skinny ties and reserved lapels. Accessories are solid silver safety pins and paper clips and leather boots. The pants of the warmer season are low-rise, relaxed with a slim leg and are worn with classic English slip-ons. The temperament is definitely relaxed, breezy, fluid and open.

Man of Swag: Super Bowl 2010 Winner Reggie Bush

By Jessica

Sure his famous rumored fiancée, Kim Kardashian, stays glued to his side, but what’s wrong with an innocent, secret crush on New Orleans’ Saints running back, Reggie Bush? The chocolate 6-foot, 203-pound NFL player won the Superbowl yesterday (Who Dat!), but he was a champion in our book long before the game started.

We’d love to get tackled on the field by the sports star but he’s just as sexy out of the uniform. Reggie cleans up lovely in monochromatic black suits that give James Bond a run for his money in the debonair department. He’s just as suave in three-piece suits, like the one he wore below to the Espy Awards.

When it’s time to go casual,  pea coats, Henley sweaters and motorcycle jackets are Reggie’s go-to pieces.

And who couldn’t love a man that shares POSHGLAM’s label lust? Bush showed off a pair of sleek, studded Christian Louboutin sneakers from the Spring 2010 collection in a picture with rapper Swizz Beatz on Kim Kardashian’s Twitter yesterday.

He also has a heart of gold to match his team’s colors, hosting charity events to benefit several organizations in New Orleans, including A Child’s Wish and Habitat for Humanity.

With his dimpled smile on the cover of February’s ESSENCE Magazine and a spot in the national MILK ad campaign (below), there’s no telling where his next press opportunity will land him. Maybe on the cover of Brides magazine arm-in-arm with yours truly, I mean, Kim Kardashian? Only time will tell.

Who makes your Men of Swag list? Tweet us @POSHGLAM and nominate your favorite male style star.

Stirring Up Spring

By David

Yes, it’s a stretch but in 50 days or so Spring 2010 will be here. That means it’s time to mentally and physically (wardrobe wise, that is) prepare yourself for brighter days! This time, the look is washed; consider pastels, tones, olives and touches of citrus. Imagine a stonewashed, sophisticated spring, garnished with pops of color found on a watch, belt or funky pair of shoes.

From left to right here are pieces that highlight this aesthetic:

1)    Broken-In Button-Down Collar Check Shirt from Martin + Osa  $59.50
This shirt from Martin + Osa has a modern-fit and that perfect rumpled finish, creating a canvas that speaks of a Spring that streams into a nautical summer.

2)    Cinch Ring Belt with J. Press Logo from J.Press $150
This gorgeous belt has heritage, charm and a baked earthy tone that’s unlike any other. Pieces like this age really well and give a prized contribution to your accessories collection.

3)     Four Pocket Cardigan from Gap $69.50
Every now and then the folks at Gap finally get it and come up with something really dapper. This olive cardigan has four pockets and a truly smart collar.

4)    Vintage Barrel Holdall from Topman $70
This well-matured bag expresses a full-bodied presence that challenges the punch of a double espresso and it might taste better too.

5)    Dark Stone Chino Pants from Topman $60
Topman cut their pants so well and these pair are a grand testament to that! In dark stone, they’re versatile for weekend strolls or even casual Fridays in the office.

Jean Paul Gaultier's Fight

By David

Jean Paul Gaultier’s recent Men’s collection takes classic masculine garments and juxtaposes them with feminine-tinged fashion elements. The result is a fragmented yet mystifyingly cohesive collection of ephemeral looks.

From skintight satin leggings, to pleated skirts, to fur jackets, the designer disobeys traditional rules of style (e.g., “black tie”) and reinterprets them for a new generation of buyers ready to embrace a spirit of free expression.

Despite the bloodstained models who appear bruised and battered, it appears that victory was achieved through a tripartite convergence of masculinity, femininity and athleticism. Perhaps the fight theme for Gaultier’s most recent runway exhibition can be decoded as symbolic of his fight for a shift in fashion from being a fixed mode of tradition to becoming a fluid exploration of reinvention and revision. John Varvatos To Launch Accessories Line for Fall 2010

By Samantha

Lifestyle brand, John Varvatos, has expanded its collection to include accessories for Fall 2010. The accessories line will feature leather goods geared toward a younger, edgier demographic, with a “preppy-meets-rocker style” look based on an “imperfectly perfect” feel.

The fabulously-designed collection will include bags, small leather goods and accessories, belts and even some funky jewelry.  The goal of the line is to expand the John Varvatos offerings to its hip male consumer at a reasonable price point, retailing from $65 to $550.

The collection, which will be exclusive to the USA, has five groupings underneath the label: caribou leather, antique calf, pebble grain, canvas and a nylon/leather grouping silk-screened with fun American motifs, from marijuana leaves to guitars. A peace sign hand and flag is a reoccurring motif that appears on most of the pieces. Many of the pieces also feature hand finishes.

The collection features luxurious textiles keeping with the John Varvatos sleek aesthetic. However, there are fabulous additions in chains and funky hardware that add a younger sensibility.

John Varvatos USA accessories complete the designer’s portfolio as a lifestyle brand, and bring sophisticated edge to his adoring male fans. The line will be available at John Varvatos stores.

The Refined Rebel | Roberto Cavalli Menswear Fall 2010

By Jessica

As Menswear designers offer a parade of safe, preppy designs, Fashion legend, Roberto Cavalli, boldly goes against the grain. His latest offering is for men who bring that same youthful, rebellious spirit to their everyday lives: men who courageously venture away from the crowd and forge their own path.

An attitude of valiance and revolution defines the Fall 2010 collection which includes slim trousers in camouflage and plaid prints, leather and wool jackets with fur-lined collars and dinner suits characterized by military elegance. With a silhouette that emphasizes manly shoulders and narrows along the body line, the look is tailored, classic, masculine and edgy.

Roberto Cavalli’s collection is well-suited for men who express their personality through Fashion, thereby setting trends instead of following blindly behind them. Cavalli had this to say about designing the collection that is at once youthful and timeless:   “I wish I were younger and more handsome … creating this collection stimulated me and thrilled me … some pieces will be mine forever … personality doesn’t have an age.” His fearless interpretation of classic designs will win over both the young rebel and the refined Roberto Cavalli man.

Man of Style | David Beckham

By Jessica

I, POSHGLAMer Jessica, have been given the very difficult task of picking a man of style, whose boyishly handsome looks, and debonair swagger, makes him fashion’s most irresistible icon. Sigh, what a tough job I have.

The first deliciously dapper heartthrob is none other than soccer stud, David Beckham. It’s only fitting that the husband of POSH Spice is as fashion-forward and suave as his wife, Victoria Beckham. In impeccably-fitting suits and a signature buzzed cut, David Beckham refuses to be upstaged by his fashionable other half.

Whether watching the L.A. Lakers game in a fitted tee, cap and aviator sunglasses or working the red-carpet in a monochromatic three piece suit, Beckham’s style aesthetic is always masculine, seductive and confident.

He is as comfortable in his soccer uniform as he is in a dashing, tailored suit or an unbuttoned plaid shirt and motorcycle jacket with a rugged pair of jeans.

Suave, without a doubt, but we love his scantily-clad, drool-inducing Emporio Armani underwear ads just a little more than his clothing choices.

Currently playing in the World Cup for AC Milan, Beckham is also kick-starting a career as a fashion designer. In the past week, the rumor mill has been abuzz with reports that David Beckham is following in the Louboutin-clad footsteps of wife, Victoria, and trying his hand at designing.

Beckham previously designed a Fall Men’s line for Adidas Originals by Originals which included classic-American designs and brightly-colored sneakers. His latest design venture will include a Full Men’s collection for the couples’ line, dVb, which leaves us with one question: do the clothes come with a set of chiseled abs? If so, women, everywhere, will be in line to buy his designs for their significant other.
