Jason Wu for TSE Fall 2010
By Faith
Jason Wu truly has the Midas Touch. Whether it be a barbie doll or an amazing frock fit for the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama, his popularity is finally catching up to his immense talent. It’s no surprise that TSE Cashmere snagged Wu to create a collection, after their past collaborations with designing greats from Narciso Rodriguez to Richard Chai.
For the Fall 2010 Collection, Wu shows us that he is capable of designing pieces for the young and hip set and not just for the ladies that lunch. He mixes textures in a way that is a little bit downtown, yet still impossibly chic. Silhouettes are feminine in true Wu fashion from draped silk chiffon dresses to pleated skirts, all with modest hemlines. Outerwear definitely makes a statement from a chunky bouclé coat to a fox fur, sure to be seen in both the East Village and on the Upper East Side.
The accessories are also a standout from looped wool scarves to hats with mink fur pom poms. Fun ways to stay warm and breathe a little life into your fall ensembles.
No word if this collaboration will span more than one season so stay tuned.

The Twentyten: A New Name in Fashion
By Dyuti
A fresh new wave of talent has washed right over us and made us sit up straight and take notice. Barely three collections old, The Twentyten has already given the fashion scene a much needed stir with their cutting edge designs and contemporary approach.
The label is the brainchild of three immensely creative designers: Nina Zilka, Jeff Dodd and David J. Krause who got together at the Pratt Institute when they discovered they shared similar design sensibilities and a mutual liking for avant garde fashion. Sculpted, gothic and almost whimsical, each ensemble is an interesting juxtaposition of flow and structure. While Collection One (Fall/Winter 2009) weighed heavy on the architectural side with certain pieces that seemed like a brilliant form of fabric origami; Collection Two, their line-up for spring, was all about an interesting amalgamation of austere tailoring and light drapes. The color palette is essentially achromatic with whites, greys and nude tones but the occasional burst of fuchsia, violet and cobalt are as deliciously refreshing. Silhouettes appear to vary quite distinctly. On one hand is the poufy little coral skirt, tad difficult to pull off but remarkable nonetheless, while on the other is a sheer mesh gown. We also love the snail skirt for its versatility and the mesh back long sleeve dress for the evening. As for men; the net cardigan and moto vest is simply dandy.
Collection Three is the Fall/Winter 2010 line-up and take our word for it when we say that it is nothing short of fabulous. With their impeccable tailoring and outrageous designs, who knows, maybe Lady Gaga might chose to be a part of their fan following very soon. Keri Hilson, for one, certainly chose to do so when she sported origami jodhpurs and fluorescent chain-print top for her video Everything, Everyday, Everywhere.
The Twentyten is available at EVA New York and KIFKA + HELLER’s BLANK and will be available online soon.

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Virtual Runway Show, Interview with O Magazine’s Adam Glassman
By Jessica
As the fashion industry makes the shift to the digital world, several designers are exploring new ways to reach audiences online from virtual runway shows to backstage video footage. Of all the runway presentations that debuted online in recent months, the Lauren by Ralph Lauren show is the most innovative.
In addition to giving fans a front-row seat to the online runway show, Lauren by Ralph Lauren has weaved commentary from the industry’s top Magazine editors into their presentation. While watching models walk the runway, viewers can take in remarks from such icons as Marie Claire’s fashion director Nina Garcia, Harper’s Bazaar’s executive fashion and beauty editor Avril Graham, Cosmopolitan’s fashion director Michelle McCool and O, The Oprah Magazine’s creative director Adam Glassman.
The innovative show also features a “Buy Now” capability, allowing viewers to purchase the safari-inspired and chambray denim looks directly from the site. In addition, an interactive Q+A component enables viewers to seek style tips directly from the aforementioned editors. “It felt very futuristic to be a part of an online fashion show,” said Nina Garcia. “Fashion is always about the Next Big Thing, and a virtual front row, where women can buy the looks they love immediately, is incredibly modern.”
Visit www.ralphlauren.com/Lauren to view the runway show and commentary.
As part of the launch of Lauren by Ralph Lauren’s new interactive runway show, POSHGLAM was invited behind-the-scenes to interview O, The Oprah Magazine’s creative director, Adam Glassman. Oprah Winfrey’s go-to style expert, Glassman has been the Creative Director at O Magazine since 2000, and is credited with pioneering the use of real women in the publication’s photo shoots. Glassman pens a wildly popular column, “Adam Says,” where he fields questions from O readers on a variety of fashion topics. He also recently worked with Sarah Jessica Parker on the debut of her clothing line, “Bitten.”
POSHGLAM sat down with the industry icon to chat about the Lauren by Ralph Lauren collection, why he loves virtual runway shows and the four pieces every woman should have in her Spring wardrobe. Read on.
POSHGLAM: First, I have to say it’s an honor to speak with you. I’ve followed your work for years and love what you’ve done with O Magazine. What do you think about the new Lauren by Ralph Lauren collection?
Adam Glassman: Thank you. The collection is stylish, but understandable and attainable. It’s what women really need right now. When I’m editing for O Magazine, we reach a very broad group of women. We reach three generations of women. And I think designers that are able to dress Grandmother, Mother and Daughter are the smartest ones out there right now. Everyone wants to look chic, stylish and youthful no matter where they are in life. And these clothes make you look great.
POSHGLAM: Absolutely. And they’re attainable without sacrificing quality.
AG: Yes, quality is key. And fit is key. The fact that they are able to dress women from Size 2 to Size 16 is also a good thing.
POSHGLAM: Very true. What were some highlights from the collection?
AG: I loved all the whites and the creams. I don’t think women should be afraid to wear white or cream. White around your face makes you look younger and fresher and more alive, especially in the Springtime. You get noticed and everyone wants to be noticed. It’s all about a great first impression.
POSHGLAM: Absolutely. I agree. Speaking of Spring, what are the strongest trends of the Spring season?
AG: There’s a lot of military dressing: utility jackets and army green, which the Lauren collection touched upon. I’m loving the military jackets but not worn as a uniform. I love it thrown over an evening dress. I love the mix of day and night together in an outfit. Another trend I love are the far and away ethnic prints. I’m seeing a lot of that. And also, I love the spice colors: oranges and saffrons. They look great on every skin tone and hair color. They make for a no-fail color palette that can work from Spring into Summer into Fall. And clothes that endure through the seasons provide great value as well as great style.
POSHGLAM: Yes! I love spice colors. I’m sure being a part of this innovative virtual show was a fascinating experience. What are the benefits of a virtual runway show as opposed to a traditional show?
AG: You can stay at home and watch them in your pajamas. (Laughs) You don’t have to worry about who is staring at you or about being in the front row. I’ll always appreciate the glamour of a traditional runway show but virtual shows are cool because it makes the experience available to a larger group of people. And everything is so fast now so the moment an editor sees it, so does a shopper, so does a blogger and everyone else. There used to be a time where an editor saw the collection and the public didn’t see it for six months. But now everyone wants to see it right away.
POSHGLAM: Right. The Lauren by Ralph Lauren even has the Buy-Now option, where you can purchase the collection as soon as you see the runway show! When it comes to shopping, women trust your advice as a style expert. What are four items that every woman should have in her Spring wardrobe?
AG: (Laughs) A style expert? Thank you. I think every woman should have a white jean. You can’t go wrong with it. Everyone needs some shine in a sparkly tank top or sequined tee. But don’t use it just for evening. Wear shine during the day for a combination of clean and fancy. This Spring, everyone should get a military jacket to just throw on. Another thing is a soft, romantic blouse. If you’re going to the office and you wear a structured suit, a blouse adds a nice play between structured and soft underneath. It’s also great with a pair of jeans for date night or girl’s night out.
POSHGLAM: Yes, very versatile. I saw a lot of blouses like that in the Lauren by Ralph Lauren show, which is great.
AG: Definitely. There are plenty pieces from the Lauren by Ralph Lauren collection that will be wardrobe staples this Spring.

My Interview with Celebrity Makeup Artist Mally Roncal
By Faith
Mally Roncal is one of those inspirational women: beautiful inside and out, an entrepreneur with her own business, a beautiful family…the list goes on. You might have seen her work on your favorite faces from Jennifer Lopez, to Beyonce, to Mariah Carey and more. I have already spent many a night with Mally (watching her on QVC that is).
I caught up with the super busy, super chic beauty guru to dish on celebrities, the Bachelor Wedding and all the makeup tips one could ever need.
What is your daily beauty routine? There’s no such thing as daily in my life, but if I’m not going on camera and just planning to be around the office or at home, my routine is pretty basic. My skincare routine starts with a lot of moisturizer from Dr. Brandt and my new Mally Beauty Perfect Prep Eye Cooling Gel System. Then, I apply my Perfect Prep Poreless Primer, curl my lashes, apply a couple coats of mascara, waterproof eye liner, groom the brows with my Brow Beauty Brow Boost, a touch of color on the cheeks, and a sheer gloss.
What inspired your line? Living on the road with my celeb clients for so many years, I wanted to create makeup that was bulletproof and easy to use so that women could realize their true beauty. It was important for me to give them products that were high performance and long-lasting.
Describe what inspires you to create new products. Definitely my clients! I listen to their beauty woes – especially about makeup companies that promote waterproof, long-lasting makeup and don’t stand true to their word. We test and test to make sure our makeup doesn’t come off, until you want it to. I also strive to give these women the most current, gorgeous colors.
What are 5 beauty essentials that you believe every woman needs? What are 5 key products from your line? Eye Lash Curler (Mally Beauty), mascara (Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara), eye brow grooming product (Mally Beauty Brow Beauty Brow Fix), blush (Mally Beauty 24/7 Professional Blush System) and concealer (Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer).
Now you are a makeup artist to the stars. Who have you loved working with? I’ve worked with so many gorgeous, talented women from Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez to Mariah Carey, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Rihanna.
Who would you like to work with in the future? I’m up for anything!
If not a beauty guru, what else would you be? A drag queen and a soccer mom!
Which other makeup artists/beauty gurus do you look to for inspiration? My mentor has always been Mathu Andersen. I met him when I was a teenager. He’s a true artist and continues to inspire me to this day.
Talk about your involvement with the Bachelor Wedding, exciting! When the opportunity was presented to me, I was thrilled to come on board. Molly was such a pleasure to work with. She was completely calm and open to my ideas. We agreed to go with a classic bride look with a modern, sexy twist. When she came in from the downpour after the ceremony, all I had to do was dab her dry with a white towel. The makeup didn’t budge, what a proud moment!
How do you manage your personal life with your busy work life? It’s all about balance and making rules and sticking to them. When I’m home, I make it a point no matter what to have dinner with my family and put all my babies to bed. If I’m away, we Skype the whole time so I can always be a part of their day. My husband and I work together so that helps us stay close all day every day.
Any upcoming projects in the future that we should know about? I have tons of amazing products to share, join me my loves! Mally Beauty on QVC

Lia Sophia Has Bangin’ Baubles
By Samantha
Lia Sophia’s latest red carpet jewelry collections, Midnight and Lanaya, have left me speechless with their glamorous, retro vibe that appears to be inspired by art deco architecture coupled with bold femininity. The jewelry line is constantly delivering jewels that are fashion forward yet classic in design, for prices that don’t kill. Also, the devotion of Lia Sophia to various charities is eye-opening, and shows again how fabulous it is when designers have a philanthropic element, making them even more lovable. Just when you thought you couldn’t love the line anymore. With Lia Sophia, the founders in the Kiam family have really created something special, jewelry that is so much more than just a shining accessory.
The Midnight collection has dashes of orange, blue and pink alongside golds and pewters, with gorgeous geometric shapes and
glittering stones. For the 70s girl living with modern day flair, the Midnight collection is sure to take her out on the town in style. From long necklaces to chokers and rings to bracelets, the collection is extremely versatile. What I love most about this collection is how transparent it is; the jewels can easily be worn during the day to spruce up jeans and a tee-shirt or at night to glitz up your finest dress. The design of each piece in this collection is so intricately thought out from the external look to the internal making from the stone placement to the color blocking. While the Midnight collection does feature some more basic pieces, the line focuses on glittering fun and just enough shimmer to make sure you are the talk of the town. You can choose to rock bolder styles, or keep it simple. Either way, the Midnight collection is definitely going to add a little kick to your step, as you walk around looking feminine and fabulous in the jewels.
The other collection that has be smitten is the Lanaya collection, which is inspired by the many hidden gems in the natural beauty of Thailand. The architecture remains simplistic yet defined and the silhouettes are tribal inspired. There are pearls throughout the collection which are coupled with chains and crystals for a marriage between natural beauty and modern sophistication. This collection features backdrops of gold and black matte with black crystals. I happen to be obsessed with the gold with black crystals, as it is an interesting play on the trend of mixed metals. The black crystals have a grey/blue tone, that with shimmer almost appears to be silvery. Against the gold, the color really pops, and these pieces can easily create an outfit. The Lanaya collection is full of bold statement pieces that you can build an entire outfit around. The collection is chic with a bit of a 1920s flapper vibe paired with the South Beach Art Deco district. The Lanaya collection doesn’t need color, because what is lacks in color is makes up for in design and detailing. From fringe to braiding, these pieces will add a new spin to any red-carpet look, and will intensify jeans and a tank to a whole new level.
The Lia Sophia Midnight and Lanaya collections are available at Lia Sophia, along with the rest of the line’s jewels. On the site, you can learn more about the founding family, opportunities to host your very own Lia Sophia party and shop to your heart’s content to find all of the baubles you will need this season, that are sure to last you for quite a few seasons to follow.
Pictured (from top to bottom): Midnight Collection – Triangle Chain Link Bracelet, $450; Triangle Stretch Bracelet, $500; Triangle Chain Necklace, $850; Orbit Necklace, $850; Orbit Ring, $200. Lanaya Collection – Fringed Chain Stretch Bracelet, $550; Fringed Chain Bracelets, $225; Fringed Chain Bib Necklace, $1,000.

A Little Skin Never Hurt | GUiSHEM Spring 2010
By Faith
With temperatures heating up, nothing is more sublime than a perfectly tailored, skin-baring silhouette, perfect for those sultry nights out on the town. Look no further for all your warm weather cocktail needs than Guillermo Jop with his line GUiSHEM.
This is GUiSHEM’s second season, but it isn’t hard to tell that Jop is no amateur. He was practically born into the fashion industry (his family owns a successful textile manufacturing business in his native Guatemala) and went on to receive a BA in Fashion Design from Polimoda in Florence, Italy as well as studying Innovative Pattern Making at Central Saint Martins which boasts alumni from John Galliano to Matthew Williamson. Jop’s expertise includes working for some of the industry’s most coveted labels from Donna Karan to Zac Posen and even to La Perla.
For Spring/Summer 2010, Jop plays with sweetheart necklines and revealing hemlines, creating a collection that is flirtatious, feminine, and altogether chic. We caught up with Jop to talk about his inspiration for the line and so much more:
“I wanted to have my own brand, a brand that reflects my own style and gives me the liberty to express myself as a designer and my ideas as I feel them and as I look at them in my own world.”
How does your native Guatemala and your time spent in London and Italy influence your designs?
“Since I developed most of my career in Italy and London, I believe that the European culture has an impact on my designs, especially in the innovative patterns and the way I develop my inspirations.”
Favorite clothing period?
“I love the 40’s and 50’s because of the glamour. I also love the 80’s because fashion was edgy and chic.”
Which women do you see wearing your pieces today?
“Every woman who loves fashion and who loves to be one step ahead. The GUiSHEM woman is independent, successful, elegant and chic.”
What inspires you to create and on a daily basis?
My inspiration can be anything. I receive inspiration while watching movies, seeing a beautiful piece of art, even a feeling. Anything that can have an impact on people in the future.”
“An architect, even though that’s still a designer in some way.”
“A cool shirt.”
“A chic cocktail dress, ballerina flats, high heels, a cool jacket and awesome glasses to complement the full look.”
Favorite vacation spot?
Florence, Italy
“Always be edgy, but be careful to not be over the edge and to not create unwearable clothing.”
What is your design process?
“First, I make a list of things I believe are going to have an impact in the season’s collection; then I start experimenting with cuts based on the final research; I continue sketching and making patterns and then I can finally create my dress.”
“Never give up, this business is very competitive so you have to be ready to be turned down and stand back up.”
Any exciting upcoming projects?
“Currently, I have created my first debut shoe collection that will be in stores this Fall 2010.”
GUiSHEM is sold in upscale boutiques from Harrods to Beyond 7 in New York. Visit www.guishem.com for more information.
