Bottega Veneta Spring 2010

By Faith

00380m bvBottega Veneta’s Spring 2010 Collection was a study in simplicity, color, and expert tailoring. Tomas Maier stuck to the brand’s DNA and produced a collection fit for Spring on the Italian Riviera.

The collection played with many types of silhouettes with the overall unifying factor being the easiness and complete wearability of the clothing. Dresses appeared in many different forms from sheaths to shirtdresses to amazingly colorful  floor-sweeping ball gowns. Pants were also shown mostly at capri length, though shorts were present in comfortable lengths in contrast to the hot pants that have been the trend in other collections.

The color palette was mostly based in creams and neutrals allowing the bright accents and accessories to pop. Color crept through in the amazing array of accessories that Bottega is always known for: exotic skin handbags, raffia wedges, and so much more. When the color appeared, it was vibrant in bright shades of yellow, purple, electric blue, hot pink, coral, and emerald green. Jewelry was also a highlight of the collection showcasing pieces with ornate silver and mixed media which gave an elegance and refinement to the collection and presented an interesting juxtaposition against the carefree clothing.

For beauty, the models had invisible eyebrows, perfectly finished faces, and mauve lips which screamed youth. Hair was swept back away from the face with white headbands and in messy buns contributing to the easy feeling of the collection.

Bottega Veneta’s Spring 2010 Collection is for the carefree woman who is not afraid to live on the bright side of life. More highlights from the collection below (courtesy of Style.com).

Milan Fashion Week: Gucci Spring 2010 Ready To Wear

By Leah

Gucci_4This past Friday, Frieda Giannini displayed her Gucci collection with panache and a twist …that is to say many of the looks were in white. Of the colors that popped there were vibrant and vivid fuschias, turquoises and burnt oranges. The silhouettes were uber skinny with an overall vibe of super slick chic attire. Sharply tailored and hemmed dresses paired with lust-worthy laced boots, all very racy and sultry. Everywhere you looked there were cutouts and beads all with cleverly constructed ties and cords, very a la Matthew Williamson.

Jackets ruled at the show with blazers coming out on top proving they truly are the most versatile piece to invest in this season. Leather was briefly spotted and paperbag, a high-waisted pant, was present. The accessories gleamed in full splendor; eyewear was incredibly fierce, the bags were highly desirable, and shoes were sky high …utterly drop dead gorgeous.

Gucci_3

Gucci is a remarkable label, like that of Louis Vuitton, who’s actually managed a profit through the recession. The Gucci girl of this season demands all eyes on her. She doesn’t care much for tradition and shuns discretion …she reeks the “rich girl” look, certainly attire that is money well spent.

All in all, Frieda Giannini’s Gucci show was fantastic.

Bedazzle Queen: Kerin Rose

By Michelle

a morir 1The “overnight success” usually falls under the category of Urban Legend but POSHGLAM has actually located one— sunglass and accessory designer Kerin Rose with her line, A-Morir. Founded in the winter of 2008 when she bought crystals to bedazzle a new iPhone but instead decided to intricately decorate a pair of new sunglasses… just for fun.

After being ogled for her sunglasses on the streets of New York City, she decided it would be worth her while to make more. All pieces are made by hand and feature between 400 and 600 crystals. Rose began her line with a small collection of four styles and a handful of headpieces and necklaces. Shortly thereafter A-Morir pieces were featured in the New York Post, Missbehave Magazine, New York Observer, The Fashion Week Daily blog, Urban Outfitters blog and many more. Rihanna also recently wore a pair of A-Morir Barracuda sunglasses in her video “Run This Town” and other celebs such as Katy Perry and Jazmine Sullivan have been seen about town in them. A-Morir can be purchased at the following stores, Patricia Field in NYC and Down At Lulus in Oakland, CA or online at a-morir.com

The NY Glitterati Chimes in with an 80's overdose

By Kimberly

chanelvintage

Rewind your brains back to the present, Fall 2009, NY Fashion week is over.  The younger years of the offspring of the babyboomers aka the Y-Gen are back. An act of rebellion revives the leggings, bright colors and sequined tops. We were once too young to dress ourselves and the fabrics of our early lives are here with an air of nostalgia.  Think Junky Chunky jewelry and Vintage Chanel’s are the craze.

If you are looking for a wild and fabulous trend to follow, try the bejeweled blazer, it can be found just about anywhere; or take a fitted blazer you like to the seamstress and have the sleeves cropped and add your own adornment (FYI, just a little stylish D.Y.I.). I love the eighties and to survive this season you should too.

Roksanda Ilincic Spring 2010

By Faith

00040m ri firstRoksanda Ilincic’s Spring 2010 Collection was a medley of beautiful artistic pieces that could fit on any Red Carpet on any side of the globe. Charm and class were the overall impressions with each piece being whimsical and distinct, yet overwhelmingly graceful.

Evening was the feeling of the collection with all of the pieces radiating a sleek and sexy quality fit for after dark. Artistic pleats were featured on dresses as well as expert draping. Strong shoulders were shown on tops and blazers continuing the beloved trend. Cropped menswear trousers were shown in a metallic brocade and shades of silk giving women pieces that they can use to transition from day to night. The color palette had a few bright moments though overwhelming dark and black towards the final looks.

The most outrageous pieces in the collection were all adorned in black feathers. Feathers graced the backs of shoes giving a whole new meaning to the idea of footwear. They were featured on a collar, sure to keep its wearer much too warm for the Spring months, and on the shoulders and bodies of dresses.

As for beauty, the models had slicked back hair. Their faces were relatively fresh with nude lips taking precedence, thick almost invisible eyebrows, and eyes highlighted with a delicate citrus color that highlighted the browbone and gave some color to the lid.

Roksanda Ilincic’s Spring 2010 Collection is for refined women who aren’t scared to take a walk on the wild side.

A Toi Collection

By Michelle

zang toiIt was two decades ago that Zang Toi appeared on the radar with a small atelier and a modest collection of sarongs, strong suits and regal dresses. However, it is Toi’s presence today at New York’s Spring Fashion Week that marks him with success and staying power in the field of fashion design.

Most known for his blending of rich textiles and matching non-traditional colors, Toi’s newest line continues to depict his unique style persona. Toi presents 32 new looks inspired from his recent visit to Spain. The compilation of these pieces exude the romance of Spain with their vibrant colors, such as chartreuse, burgundy, pastel pink, and a bright hue of blue. The collection also features crystal detailing, a mix of velvet and beads and shoe adornment. It is no wonder Toi is a favorite among actresses Kelly Preston, Meg Ryan and Sharon Stone. Toi’s line can be found at department stores Neiman Marcus & Nordstrom in the fine couture departments. For more information on Zang Toi collections, please visit HouseofToi.com

Duro Olowu Spring 2010

By Faith

02m duro

Duro Olowu’s Spring 2010 Collection is a sensory overload in the best way possible. The colors are vivid and theatrical creating a showy and almost psychedelic narrative. Olowu’s inspiration for the collection stems from Picasso’s paintings and one can see the influence in the pieces which seem to be touched by a paintbrush.

Silhouettes for the collection are feminine ranging from dresses to separates which all flatter a woman’s body. Hemlines run from short to long giving the Duro Olowu customer a versatile wardrobe. Beloved trends such as strong shoulders and the trench are given a new spin with bright, eye-popping colors and prints which take these traditional styles into the sartorial stratosphere.

For beauty, the model’s face is kept clean and fresh with hair in a sleek chignon so that the clothes remain the central focus.

Duro Olowu’s Spring 2010 Collection is for the adventurous woman who wants to stand out in a crowd.
