My Interview with Celebrity Makeup Artist Mally Roncal

By Faith

Mally Roncal is one of those inspirational women: beautiful inside and out, an entrepreneur with her own business, a beautiful family…the list goes on. You might have seen her work on your favorite faces from Jennifer Lopez, to Beyonce, to Mariah Carey and more. I have already spent many a night with Mally (watching her on QVC that is).

I caught up with the super busy, super chic beauty guru to dish on celebrities, the Bachelor Wedding and all the makeup tips one could ever need.

What is your daily beauty routine? There’s no such thing as daily in my life, but if I’m not going on camera and just planning to be around the office or at home, my routine is pretty basic. My skincare routine starts with a lot of moisturizer from Dr. Brandt and my new Mally Beauty Perfect Prep Eye Cooling Gel System. Then, I apply my Perfect Prep Poreless Primer, curl my lashes, apply a couple coats of mascara, waterproof eye liner, groom the brows with my Brow Beauty Brow Boost, a touch of color on the cheeks, and a sheer gloss.

What inspired your line? Living on the road with my celeb clients for so many years, I wanted to create makeup that was bulletproof and easy to use so that women could realize their true beauty. It was important for me to give them products that were high performance and long-lasting.

Describe what inspires you to create new products. Definitely my clients! I listen to their beauty woes – especially about makeup companies that promote waterproof, long-lasting makeup and don’t stand true to their word. We test and test to make sure our makeup doesn’t come off, until you want it to. I also strive to give these women the most current, gorgeous colors.

What are 5 beauty essentials that you believe every woman needs? What are 5 key products from your line? Eye Lash Curler (Mally Beauty), mascara (Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara), eye brow grooming product (Mally Beauty Brow Beauty Brow Fix), blush (Mally Beauty 24/7 Professional Blush System) and concealer (Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer).

Now you are a makeup artist to the stars. Who have you loved working with? I’ve worked with so many gorgeous, talented women from Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez to Mariah Carey, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Rihanna.

Who would you like to work with in the future? I’m up for anything!

If not a beauty guru, what else would you be? A drag queen and a soccer mom!

Which other makeup artists/beauty gurus do you look to for inspiration? My mentor has always been Mathu Andersen. I met him when I was a teenager. He’s a true artist and continues to inspire me to this day.

Talk about your involvement with the Bachelor Wedding, exciting! When the opportunity was presented to me, I was thrilled to come on board. Molly was such a pleasure to work with. She was completely calm and open to my ideas. We agreed to go with a classic bride look with a modern, sexy twist. When she came in from the downpour after the ceremony, all I had to do was dab her dry with a white towel. The makeup didn’t budge, what a proud moment!

How do you manage your personal life with your busy work life? It’s all about balance and making rules and sticking to them. When I’m home, I make it a point no matter what to have dinner with my family and put all my babies to bed. If I’m away, we Skype the whole time so I can always be a part of their day. My husband and I work together so that helps us stay close all day every day.

Any upcoming projects in the future that we should know about? I have tons of amazing products to share, join me my loves! Mally Beauty on QVC

Lia Sophia Has Bangin’ Baubles

By Samantha

Lia Sophia’s latest red carpet jewelry collections, Midnight and Lanaya, have left me speechless with their glamorous, retro vibe that appears to be inspired by art deco architecture coupled with bold femininity. The jewelry line is constantly delivering jewels that are fashion forward yet classic in design, for prices that don’t kill. Also, the devotion of Lia Sophia to various charities is eye-opening, and shows again how fabulous it is when designers have a philanthropic element, making them even more lovable. Just when you thought you couldn’t love the line anymore. With Lia Sophia, the founders in the Kiam family have really created something special, jewelry that is so much more than just a shining accessory.

The Midnight collection has dashes of orange, blue and pink alongside golds and pewters, with gorgeous geometric shapes and glittering stones. For the 70s girl living with modern day flair, the Midnight collection is sure to take her out on the town in style. From long necklaces to chokers and rings to bracelets, the collection is extremely versatile. What I love most about this collection is how transparent it is; the jewels can easily be worn during the day to spruce up jeans and a tee-shirt or at night to glitz up your finest dress. The design of each piece in this collection is so intricately thought out from the external look to the internal making from the stone placement to the color blocking. While the Midnight collection does feature some more basic pieces, the line focuses on glittering fun and just enough shimmer to make sure you are the talk of the town. You can choose to rock bolder styles, or keep it simple. Either way, the Midnight collection is definitely going to add a little kick to your step, as you walk around looking feminine and fabulous in the jewels.

The other collection that has be smitten is the Lanaya collection, which is inspired by the many hidden gems in the natural beauty of Thailand. The architecture remains simplistic yet defined and the silhouettes are tribal inspired. There are pearls throughout the collection which are coupled with chains and crystals for a marriage between natural beauty and modern sophistication. This collection features backdrops of gold and black matte with black crystals. I happen to be obsessed with the gold with black crystals, as it is an interesting play on the trend of mixed metals. The black crystals have a grey/blue tone, that with shimmer almost appears to be silvery. Against the gold, the color really pops, and these pieces can easily create an outfit. The Lanaya collection is full of bold statement pieces that you can build an entire outfit around. The collection is chic with a bit of a 1920s flapper vibe paired with the South Beach Art Deco district. The Lanaya collection doesn’t need color, because what is lacks in color is makes up for in design and detailing. From fringe to braiding, these pieces will add a new spin to any red-carpet look, and will intensify jeans and a tank to a whole new level.

The Lia Sophia Midnight and Lanaya collections are available at Lia Sophia, along with the rest of the line’s jewels. On the site, you can learn more about the founding family, opportunities to host your very own Lia Sophia party and shop to your heart’s content to find all of the baubles you will need this season, that are sure to last you for quite a few seasons to follow.

Tibi at Bloomingdale's Today in NYC + A Little Fashion Advice

By Faith

I love traveling almost as much as I love shopping. Tibi rolls my favorite pastimes into one with bold prints and feminine silhouettes perfect for a trip to St. Tropez or Ibiza.

Today, Tibi and Bloomingdale’s are teaming up and giving the NYC set the perfect chance to start on Spring shopping. A fabulous gift comes with every purchase (don’t worry I won’t spoil the fun) and a beautiful runway piece will be given away to one lucky winner (the piece featured to the right).

I caught up with Tibi’s fashion experts ahead of time to get some spring/summer wardrobe ideas and to talk about some key pieces in the Spring 2010 collection.

What are some key pieces from Tibi’s Spring 2010 Collection?

The Cala Lilly Cap sleeve dress has been selling out like crazy! For a more glam casual look, we have a couple draped blazers in the collection that look amazing paired with our pastel colored ruffle shorts.

With spring and summer approaching, what are 3 essential travel pieces that all women should have?

Cropped jackets in fun textures – Tibi has an amazing suede blazer for spring that completely complements a flowy dress, and having something to slip over a dress or tank when it cools off at night is a travel savior.

Day Dress – We have a few jersey pieces in the Spring collection that you can completely ball up and won’t wrinkle, so amazing for living out of a suitcase.  Personal favorite is the Bouvier Jersey One Shoulder Printed Dress: it’s a perfect mix of downtown style and travel sensibility.

LBD – You always need to have a dress for a glitzy night out to make you feel like a rock star. Our Oleander Beading Slip Dress has a vintage silhouette with allover beading for a fun update.

What are some ideas for spring/summer ensembles?

Go short and show off your legs. Also sheer tops with embroidery or crochet detail in more conservative cuts perfectly mix coy and casual.  Until the weather warms up, throw a trench over everything and you’re guaranteed to look chic.

Any spring/summer fashion advice?

Always wear sunscreen and never miss a chance to wear color. The Tibi line includes so many fun prints and saturated hues, and summer is the perfect excuse to brighten up your wardrobe.

FOR JOSEPH Mixes Up Classic Americana with European Chic

By Samantha

F O R  J O S E P H, a contemporary line of women’s clothing has become a fashion favorite for its soft garments with effortless sophistication and wearability. The line was started by couple Joseph and Laurence Agi in 1986 when they shipped their first collection to Barneys. From then, the line has expanded tremendously, and a great deal of the success of the line is the designer’s ability to listen to what women want from their wardrobe.

F O R  J O S E P H combines the casual American vibe with sophisticated Parisian street-wear and and a playful European aethetic. They have a loyal and ever growing customer base as consumers have learned to trust them in their designs which area always well-made, cut to perfection and sourced from the best fabrics from around the globe. The styles are fresh and youthful, but remain refined and sleek, with each season’s offerings promising classic basics that are fashion forward and timeless.

The couple sources their inspiration from real street-wear from Rodeo Drive to Rue St. Honore and everywhere throughout the world from the Americas to Europe. Joseph’s fashion business sense combined with Laurence’s design skill has made these two a power couple in the fashion world. While the line was initially manufactured in Italy, they have now expanded to various places around the world, wherever the best fabrics and artisans for their garments can be found.

The line focuses on creating luxurious basics that make women feel good while wearing them. From the basics, they create signature fun pieces each season that are must-haves and have a definite edgy flair. However, the most important part for the Agi’s is creating wearable pieces that women can feel both sexy and comfortable in. From the fit to the fabrics, the basics can be worn together or separately, and the Agi’s, and their fans, can attribute to the fact that the line is a true testament to classic design with constantly changing with the times modernity, keeping the styles of the moment, yet fresh for years to come.

Fashion + Art Unite with Prismera Design

By Faith

The Fashion and Art Worlds have always been attached at the hip. Fashion designers are considered “artists” just the same and for Fashion Weeks all across the globe, many collaborate with gallery spaces to showcase their designs.

Laura Su’s roots are based in art, as she graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration. Though embarking on Prismera Design, her jewelry and accessories line, painting has always been near and dear to her heart and an inspiration for her collections: “Watercolor is a medium that I’ve loved since art school and painting these lovely girls has allowed me to continue embracing color in a different way while designing my line of jewelry.”

Su has just released her second series of fashion illustration prints comprised of five designs: Scarlet, Cadmium Yellow, Emerald, Cobalt, and Coral. Each is printed on slightly textured 100% cotton rag paper and the inks are professionally archived. The prints come in sizes 5″ x 7″ and 11″ x 14″, as well as sets of three for both sizes. Prices range from $20-$55 and frames are available as well.
