MateVeza the Best Beer to Bring in the New Year.
By Samantha
While some are popping champagne and others are drinking oddly colored mixed drinks, have a casual, yet totally fun New Years Eve, and don’t worry about being the first to pass out while drinking MateVeza Beer. MateVeza (yerba mate + cerveza) is a true unique beer, as it is organic and the first naturally caffeinated to be made with yerba mate, the South American herbal tea. Yerba mate gives a fabulous herbal tasting finish to the beer, and gives you just the boost you need to make it through your night. Yerba mate is to South America what a “cup of Joe” is to America. Yerba mate provides the same amount of caffeine as is in one half cup of coffee, per twelve ounce serving, but isn’t as harsh as the caffeine found in most coffee, and is longer lasting.
MateVeza has two fabulous beer offerings, Yerba Mate Gold and Yerba Mate IPA, both of which are brewed with organic yerba mate, Cascade and Centennial hops, alongside other fabulous ingredients. Yerba Mate IPA was just recently released and is an organic India Pale Ale that mixes earthy, herbal tones with bright hop flavor and aroma.
MateVeza was founded in 2006 by home brewer, Jim Woods after he had a cup of brewed yerba mate followed by a hoppy pale ale, and realized he had a fabulous idea on his hands. Woods learned about yerba mate from his cousin, but then experienced the yerba mate culture in South America when he traveled to Argentina to learn more about the herb. Woods’ beer is brewed and bottled in Ukiah, California by the Mendocino Brewing Company, and it USDA certified, you can rest assured with every sip that you are supporting both organic farming and local business. Woods’ was working in San Francisco as a real-estate broker for Deutsche Bank, and found himself promoting his beer on nights, weekends and vacation days. With the recession on the horizon and numerous changes taking place at Deutsche Bank, Woods’ politely asked his boss to lay him off, so that he could use his severance, unemployment and time to put toward making MateVeza a success. Days later, he was laid off, being one of the few people to thank his employer, and he took the opportunity to build MateVeza, and bring naturally caffeinated beer to the masses, both casual beer drinkers and beer connoisseurs alike.
MateVeza is available in single 22-ounce bottles and 12-ounce four packs nationwide at Whole Foods and BevMo, as well as throughout California, Oregon and Washington and select local retailers, co-ops and natural food stores. Visit MateVeza.com for more information.

UK Skips to Our Shores
By Geraldine
The Brits once again invade our shores, and this time it’s with fashion. Fifteen American designers have collaborated with 15 United Kingdom based designers to swap places in their Lower Eastside and London locations, a.k.a, the ‘Wish You Were Here Project‘. This project is to introduce innovative and unique young designers into the United States retail market in ‘popup’ shops. This is a limited engagement for only four weeks starting August 22 until September 13, 2009.
This past Thursday night, I experienced the Launch party at New York City’s Orchard Street locale. The event was held at a gallery space showcasing the 15 designers from the UK as avant-garde art installations. The collection was a mix of nautical elements with a very urban youthful sophistication.
To learn more and shop, visit wishyouwerehereswap.com or head to 186 Orchard Street in New York City to see what the bustle is all about.

A Birthday Affair
By Geraldine

Last night I was invited to a celebration down in the Bowery, in New York City. The fashion designer Loris Diran celebrated his Birthday with his business partner Mark Sage and assistant designer Kara Lariks. It was an intimate gathering of close friends and the fashion community.
The celebration was held at the Loris Diran flagship store in the Bowery. Guests were greeted with Gin and tonic drinks and mixers provided by Bulldog London Gin. Guests arrived in fashionably late standards from writers, industry stylist and models.
I would like to say to my dearest friend, Loris Diran, Happy Birthday and great success in the coming weeks. Good Luck in New York Fashion week Spring/ Summer 2010. POSHGLAM would like to extend their Birthday wishes to you.

During the fashion show and the event, guests were able to buy each designer collection at the makeshift booths on either side of the event space. Designers who were willing to participate were, DURKL, Brian Wood, HellZ, Jungle Gurl, Mary Meyer, Peg Leg NYC, Secta, and Melissa.
5 % proceeds from each customer purchase goes towards the charity Urban ZEN. For more information about this charity please visit the website www.urbanzen.org

Unveiling of a not so ordinary snowboard
By Geraldine
July 29, New York City- Last night what felt like a monsoon hit out beloved metropolis, I ventured out to The Standard Hotel located in the Meatpacking District. The reason was a secret unveiling of the K2 snowboard.
The Highline terrace opens its doors to a private viewing of K2 Snowboard known as SlayBlade. Displays of the K2 snowboard were flank on either side of the event space. This is no ordinary snowboard. The SlayBlade is a 2 year collaboration with Penguin Original Clothing Brand. Penguin Original gave full access to K2 designers to use patterns and textures only uses by Penguin Original. This collaboration led to the SlayBlade’s graphic use of patterns, stitching; but yet kept the integrity of the youthful spirit of the brand as well as keeping the style and maturity of the Penguin Original Clothing Brand.
Guests arrived gradually due to the ever downpour of rain. Within an hour and half into the event the place was packed, but yet maneuverable. Mini Delectable assortments of bites were being passed around as well as glasses of champagne and white wine. A fully overstocked bar was in placed for any guests who wanted a variety of libations
Celebrities and fashion stylists were on hand to view the line, from Jorge Ramos celebrity stylist, Nole Marin of VNY Models, Mickey Boardman of Paper Magazine, and Snowboard X-treme boarder Eero Niemela.
Upon leaving the event each guest left with a gift bag contain a Penguin Men’s button down sweater either in a size M or L, a bag of pop chips and a music cd.

Social Diary: L.A. Bound
By Natacha
That’s right as of this weekend I have packed up my things and moved to the southern California oasis that is Los Angeles! After four fun-filled years in my beloved NYC, I decided I was in need of change (and a serious tan) and packed up my life.
Although, I have been an Angelino since birth, I look forward to rediscovering this sun savvy city and the little nooks and crannies in between. Already this week I stumbled upon this amazing furniture mecca in Culver City. To a girl with a barren apartment, I thought I had reached the seventh level of Nirvana.
Apparently, I wasn’t the first to know about this either, the likes of Naomi Watts, Selena Gomez and Julia Roberts have all been spotted at this furniture haven. My favorite store was this massive emporium, H.D. Buttercup. From chic, art deco tables to cozy, corn
er sofas, I literally had to restrain myself. I finally settled on a few less expensive, decorative pieces that I knew would look great in my place.
I can’t wait to scour the city for more amazing finds, but for now it’s off to Zuma Beach in Malibu to catch up on some of those much-needed rays of sunshine and hopefully a few classic celeb sightings!

Social Diary: Luck of the Sale
By Natacha

Every girl loves a good sample sale. And what does a girl love even more than finding a killer deal at a sale? Scoring that deal for free!
Regardless of the lines, screaming women and occasional bag fight I can’t seem to resist a sample sale! This weekend I found myself knee-deep in colorful Rebecca Minkoff totes and classic Abaete shift dresses. Upon making my purchases I was asked if I wanted to enter a raffle to win a bag of my choice. Obviously I put my name down and scampered off to a quick brunch with friends. I returned an hour later for the drawing and believe or not, I won!
I could not think of a better way to start my weekend! The tough part now was choosing which bag I wanted…I wish all life’s decisions were this difficult! After much deliberation and input from fellow shoppers, my friends and the sales people, I finally decided on this amazing neon yellow ostrich tote. I literally can fit my whole life in it and still look chic!

Social Diary NYC: Pretty Little Pictures
By Natacha
Last Thursday I was lucky enough to find myself on a very special guided tour of the Society of Illustrators latest exhibit. Over the years it has laid tribute to some of New York’s most revolutionary artists.
“The Line of Fashion: Curated by Robert Richards,” shares sketches from some of the most famous fashion illustrators of the past century. From ideas for Halston’s very first collections, to Versace circa 1980, the exhibit gives us a wonderful chance to appreciate those who helped make fashion what it is today.
Katie’s father has been a dear friend of the curator, Robert Richards, for some time and he kindly offered us a tres privé tour of the exhibit. Dressed in a navy/sky blue patchwork suit, and thick, round b lack frame glasses, Robert is the epitome of art world eccentricity. His love for the exhibit shined with every piece’s description. Little did I know that my much beloved Vogue magazine, began as a book of fashion show illustration
s for high society ladies. Instead of photographers, they hired artists to sketch feverishly at presentations and then eventually had their sketches printed in the magazine!

After a lovely tour, I had to rush out because I had dinner reservations at Mario Batali’s restaurant du jour: Casa Mono! An hour later, including a quick outfit change and some reapplication, I found myself happily drinking Cava, Spain’s delightful equivalent to champagne. Between the savory Pumpkin and Goat Cheese croquettes, Jamon Iberico and melt-in-your-mouth Lamb Chops with chive cuajada, I was a very satisfied customer. Next time I go, I most definitely plan on sitting at the bar, not only can you have a bird’s eye view of your food being prepared, but the chefs doing all the work are not bad to look at either!
