Light a candle to recognize human rights
By Leah
Alice Temperley is partnering with Amnesty International December 10, 2009 to highlight the importance of Human Rights Day with a votive. As a big supporter of Amnesty, Temperley expresses her enthusiasm for the partnership. “I am thrilled to be working with Amnesty International again, producing a candle for this Christmas. The symbol of the candle highlights perfectly the hope that Amnesty gives to so many people around the world by improving human rights. I am very pleased to be helping to spread this message and hope many people will support the cause.
The barbed wire image that adorns the outer edging of the candle is very befitting for the design. Amnesty’s founder Peter Benenson explains it recalls a favorite Chinese proverb: “Better to light a candle than curse the darkness.” The actual candle is manufactured in England and comprised of a mineral and soy wax blend. Top notes include blackcurrant, rose, and frangipani; middle notes of jasmine and violet; with base notes of vanilla & chocolate. The candle retails for $45; shop TemperleyLondon.com.
The entire profits from the candle are dedicated to Amnesty International.
