My Interview with Celebrity Makeup Artist Mally Roncal

By Faith

Mally Roncal is one of those inspirational women: beautiful inside and out, an entrepreneur with her own business, a beautiful family…the list goes on. You might have seen her work on your favorite faces from Jennifer Lopez, to Beyonce, to Mariah Carey and more. I have already spent many a night with Mally (watching her on QVC that is).

I caught up with the super busy, super chic beauty guru to dish on celebrities, the Bachelor Wedding and all the makeup tips one could ever need.

What is your daily beauty routine? There’s no such thing as daily in my life, but if I’m not going on camera and just planning to be around the office or at home, my routine is pretty basic. My skincare routine starts with a lot of moisturizer from Dr. Brandt and my new Mally Beauty Perfect Prep Eye Cooling Gel System. Then, I apply my Perfect Prep Poreless Primer, curl my lashes, apply a couple coats of mascara, waterproof eye liner, groom the brows with my Brow Beauty Brow Boost, a touch of color on the cheeks, and a sheer gloss.

What inspired your line? Living on the road with my celeb clients for so many years, I wanted to create makeup that was bulletproof and easy to use so that women could realize their true beauty. It was important for me to give them products that were high performance and long-lasting.

Describe what inspires you to create new products. Definitely my clients! I listen to their beauty woes – especially about makeup companies that promote waterproof, long-lasting makeup and don’t stand true to their word. We test and test to make sure our makeup doesn’t come off, until you want it to. I also strive to give these women the most current, gorgeous colors.

What are 5 beauty essentials that you believe every woman needs? What are 5 key products from your line? Eye Lash Curler (Mally Beauty), mascara (Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara), eye brow grooming product (Mally Beauty Brow Beauty Brow Fix), blush (Mally Beauty 24/7 Professional Blush System) and concealer (Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer).

Now you are a makeup artist to the stars. Who have you loved working with? I’ve worked with so many gorgeous, talented women from Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez to Mariah Carey, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Rihanna.

Who would you like to work with in the future? I’m up for anything!

If not a beauty guru, what else would you be? A drag queen and a soccer mom!

Which other makeup artists/beauty gurus do you look to for inspiration? My mentor has always been Mathu Andersen. I met him when I was a teenager. He’s a true artist and continues to inspire me to this day.

Talk about your involvement with the Bachelor Wedding, exciting! When the opportunity was presented to me, I was thrilled to come on board. Molly was such a pleasure to work with. She was completely calm and open to my ideas. We agreed to go with a classic bride look with a modern, sexy twist. When she came in from the downpour after the ceremony, all I had to do was dab her dry with a white towel. The makeup didn’t budge, what a proud moment!

How do you manage your personal life with your busy work life? It’s all about balance and making rules and sticking to them. When I’m home, I make it a point no matter what to have dinner with my family and put all my babies to bed. If I’m away, we Skype the whole time so I can always be a part of their day. My husband and I work together so that helps us stay close all day every day.

Any upcoming projects in the future that we should know about? I have tons of amazing products to share, join me my loves! Mally Beauty on QVC

The Fashion Community Gives Back to Haiti

By Jessica

Compassion will always be in style. That’s why in an effort to lend a helping hand to Haiti, several retailers have donated proceeds of their sales and designed special edition Haiti-inspired pieces. Here is a list of brands that are dedicating their efforts, time and monies to Haiti earthquake relief. From a Ralph Lauren Haiti Relief Polo shirt to a Unique Vintage umbrella, these pieces will make you look and feel good all at the same time.

1-Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren has joined forces with the United Way to create the Haiti Relief Polo Shirt. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Haiti Relief Polo Shirt will be donated to the United Way Worldwide Disaster Fund, an organization that is providing aid to the traumatized nation. Shop Ralph Lauren.

2-The CFDA

The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) designers have created a $25 “Fashion for Haiti” Men’s and Women’s T-shirt, which benefits the Clinton Bush Haiti fund. “The tragedy in Haiti has affected everyone and most of us individually have given money for relief,” said Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA president. “However, I think it is now important to send a message and create a channel for funding from fashion as an industry.” The shirt will be manufactured by Theory. Shop CFDA and the following retailers starting February 12: Carolina Herrera, Devi Kroell, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan International, Elie Tahari, Foley + Corinna, Generra, Giuseppe Zanotti, Intermix, Manolo Blahnik, Nanette Lepore, Ralphlauren.com, Rugby.com, Saks Fifth Avenue, Scoop, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese, Trina Turk and Zero + Maria Cornejo.

3–Alexis Bittar

Alexis Bittar donated 100 percent of sales from the online store to Haiti relief last week, from Monday, January 18th to Friday, January 22nd. The proceeds were donated to Catholic Relief Services for Haiti Relief, which gives 93% of its donations directly to the cause.

4-Diesel

Renzo Rosso (the founder and president of Diesel clothing) donated $250,000 to Yele Haiti, the foundation started by Grammy-award winning musician Wyclef Jean.  Renzo says, “I was deeply moved by the horrible tragedy in Haiti. I wanted to do something for the people and support the important work that Wyclef and his foundation have done and are doing for the island nation.”

That’s not all. Rosso’s heart has always been with helping the disadvantaged and that’s why he founded the Only the Brave Foundation in 2008, a non-profit aimed to empower and mobilize youth to end poverty. His donation to Yele Haiti will add up to another pledge to start an Only The Brave/ Yéle Haiti music studio in Cité Soleil, with the goal to use music and video production as a tool for social development.

5-Tracy Reese

Accomplished designer, Tracy Reese, was so deeply touched and moved by the human response to the Haiti crisis that she donated 10% of all the proceeds from the Tracy Reese boutique in Manhattan to American Red Cross during the weekend of January 15th.  You can still make a donation directly to the American Red Cross here.

6-Lindsay Lohan’s 6126 Collection

Lindsay Lohan’s  6126 Collection is donating 100% of all the proceeds from the Fame Leggings by 6126 to Save the Children, an organization that is conducting emergency relief distributions in Haiti on a daily basis. The Fame legging comes in Metallic silver and retails for $90 but is $65 for a limited time only. Shop 6126 Collection.

“It is truly horrible what has happened to the people and children in Haiti,” said Lindsay Lohan. “I believe every company should do their part to help by donating what they can.  Please help us do our part for the Children of Haiti by purchasing this 6126 legging.”

By Samantha

TEHSChapter

GlamourGals is an organization that proves women of all ages are the same when it comes to their love of beauty, makeup and being pampered. Started 10 years ago by founder Rachel Doyle, the organization is a group of teen girls that work together with elderly women to not only keep them company, but to learn and bond with them. Each month teenage volunteers visit senior homes to beauty and pamper women residents. Volunteers range from California all the way to Scotland.

Recently, POSHGLAM hosted the Hot Pink Carpet for the GlamourGals 6th Annual Leadership Training Institute. Over 74 volunteers came to the Helen Mills Event Space to celebrate and learn from female leaders in the media, beauty and finance fields.

Keynote speaker was Hearst Corporation’s Director of Entertainment, Lauren Ruotolo who lives and works with McCune-Albright syndrome. She referred to the volunteers as “angels” to the elderly women. Other speakers included Achelle Dunaway, Creative Director of e.l.f. Cosmetics, Melissa Meyers, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of AskMelissa and Caryn Zweig and Chief Operating Operator of Abner, Herman & Brock. The girls also participated in a Beauty Blogger Luncheon, sponsored by Tossed and Hint Water, in which beauty bloggers sat to answer questions about the industry. At the end volunteers were able to do “America’s Next Top Model”-like photo shoots on the Hot Pink Carpet, where singer/songwriter Nadine Loren conducted interviews.

GlamourGals is a fabulous organization, and POSHGLAM was pleased to give the amazing high school volunteers a chance to strut their stuff on the Hot Pink Carpet. For more information, visit GlamourGals.
