Tibi at Bloomingdale's Today in NYC + A Little Fashion Advice

By Faith

I love traveling almost as much as I love shopping. Tibi rolls my favorite pastimes into one with bold prints and feminine silhouettes perfect for a trip to St. Tropez or Ibiza.

Today, Tibi and Bloomingdale’s are teaming up and giving the NYC set the perfect chance to start on Spring shopping. A fabulous gift comes with every purchase (don’t worry I won’t spoil the fun) and a beautiful runway piece will be given away to one lucky winner (the piece featured to the right).

I caught up with Tibi’s fashion experts ahead of time to get some spring/summer wardrobe ideas and to talk about some key pieces in the Spring 2010 collection.

What are some key pieces from Tibi’s Spring 2010 Collection?

The Cala Lilly Cap sleeve dress has been selling out like crazy! For a more glam casual look, we have a couple draped blazers in the collection that look amazing paired with our pastel colored ruffle shorts.

With spring and summer approaching, what are 3 essential travel pieces that all women should have?

Cropped jackets in fun textures – Tibi has an amazing suede blazer for spring that completely complements a flowy dress, and having something to slip over a dress or tank when it cools off at night is a travel savior.

Day Dress – We have a few jersey pieces in the Spring collection that you can completely ball up and won’t wrinkle, so amazing for living out of a suitcase.  Personal favorite is the Bouvier Jersey One Shoulder Printed Dress: it’s a perfect mix of downtown style and travel sensibility.

LBD – You always need to have a dress for a glitzy night out to make you feel like a rock star. Our Oleander Beading Slip Dress has a vintage silhouette with allover beading for a fun update.

What are some ideas for spring/summer ensembles?

Go short and show off your legs. Also sheer tops with embroidery or crochet detail in more conservative cuts perfectly mix coy and casual.  Until the weather warms up, throw a trench over everything and you’re guaranteed to look chic.

Any spring/summer fashion advice?

Always wear sunscreen and never miss a chance to wear color. The Tibi line includes so many fun prints and saturated hues, and summer is the perfect excuse to brighten up your wardrobe.

The heel strikes twice—on the weekend

By Zoe

1023886_fpxYou know something’s going right (or you’re in a sex scandal) when the paparazzi snaps you twice in one little weekend. So is the case with the York platform, which was worn by 90210’s Jennie Garth at The Twilight Saga: New Moon premiere and by country music star Kelly Clarkson at the American Music Awards (pictured below), both taking place in Los Angeles.

The Sam Edelman York Platform are sweetly blingy with studded detail on the platform and cute metallic mirror detail on the inner heel. And you will definitely looks oh-so-fab with the height you’ll get on these black suede pumps.

The Sam Edelman York Platform retails for $189 at Bloomingdale’s and at their online store here. For more on Sam Edelman go here.

Kim Parker Home Designs

By Michelle

mumsandasters_rugKim Parker has been able to parlay her popular floral paintings into home style, as her unique artistic look is contagious to all that come across it. Parker has seen a fair amount of success and acclaim in the past several years. However, the real success may be rising up against the odds in the very competitive world of interior design— especially with no formal design training to speak of.

Parker left behind a promising career as a classical flutist and launched her home brand in 2001. Since then she has been on a steady rise of popularity and in high demand. Parker has worked with Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s and became a bestseller, the first designer brand to achieve bestseller status in the retailer’s bedding department. The Kim Parker Home Collection includes designer rugs, dinnerware, giftware, bedding, bath, fabrics, decorative pillows, stationery and wall art.

Parker’s style is stand-alone with vibrant signature colors that can make any drab room into a delightful garden. It is no surprise that Parker says, “Designing is a very joyful process for me. I love working with rich and exuberant hues, whether for a rug, a pillow, a dinner plate, bedding collection, or canvas. When I design anything, it’s a very organic and free exploration.”

Frida’s garden pillow retails for $180 at KimParker.tv, the Orange Dahlias print retails for $40 at Art.com, and the bestselling, iconic and design winning rug “Mums and Asters” starts at $2500 and is sold exclusively at The Rug Company in Los Angeles at 8202 Melrose Avenue. For other Rug Company locations throughout the world please visit TheRugCompany.com or for more information about Kim Parker you can visit KimParker.tv.

Fluxus at Brentwood Gardens

By Michelle

fluxus1The Fluxus brand was launched in 2006 by Martin Paquette and is Los Angeles-based and produced. Its look is inspired by the experimental Fluxus art movement of the 1960’s and is best known for basic layering and soft knit pieces. The label may also sound familiar as it is carried at high-end retailers such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, H. Lorenzo and Fred Segal.

In the past three years Fluxus has seen a whirlwind of success and has made some important additions this year. This past Spring a flagship store was opened in Larchmont, Project Runway Season 3 winner Jeffery Sebelia was brought on as Head Designer and most recently Fluxus opened a second location at Brentwood Gardens. This newest location will carry the highly anticipated Capsule Collection from Sebelia with exclusive couture pieces, along with other men’s and women’s styles.

On Saturday, November 14th a party at the Brentwood Gardens location will mark the official opening of the store. In light of the opening, 25% off will be given from 1pm to 4pm on both men’s and women’s merchandise. Although most items are under $100, prices range from $40 to $200 and the exclusive Jeffrey Sebelia for Fluxus Capsule Collection retails between $66 and $300. Dylan George: A Denim Phenomenon

By Michelle

Dylan GeorgeDenim designer and mogul Danny Guez keeps no one guessing about the status of his newest line Dylan George, as it is a sure fire success like the others under his belt— People’s Liberation and William Rast. Dylan George denim was launched in December 2008 and already has the attention of Hollywood starlets Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendes, Lady Gaga and many more. Guez’s denim roots stem from Azteca Productions where he developed private label denim products for brands such as J. Crew, Pacific Sunwear and American Eagle.

The difference in the denim Guez produces is the combination of first-class fabrics with fashion-forward designs, authentic washes and of course a super flattering fit.  The line reflects the Los Angeles scene where the brand is based but it is the use of Italian fabrics with a European fit that makes Dylan George an affordable brand of denim that goes from day casual to an upscale night on the town.

Dylan George is available at Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Fred Segal Fun and other fine retailers. Prices range from $145-$200 for men and women. For store locations or to shop online visit, DylanGeorge.com

Going Pink

By Michelle

BCAinterior-400x319Over the years the color pink has become a tribute to the women who have fallen from Breast Cancer but also a hopeful promise that a cure is on the way. Each year New York handbag designer, Lauren Merkin designs a special pink item for her collection to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness. Just as in the past years Merkin has partnered once again with the Young Survival Coalition and designed a chic Fuchsia Tiled Embossed Lamb wallet. It retails for $175 while a very generous 50% of the profits are donated to the Young Survival Coalition. The wallet is a large zip around that opens fully with two cash compartments, a zipped change area and nine credit card slots. The wallet can be purchased at LaurenMerkin.com and other Merkin pieces can be found at Bloomingdale’s, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
