2010 Oscars Red Carpet: Pinks, Blues and Gold All Over
By Samantha
The biggest red carpet celebration has just passed us by, the 82nd Academy Awards. But we wouldn’t let this day full of entertainment icons pass us by without discussing the fabulous fashions worn on the famous red carpet. This year, the Oscars celebration was full of vibrant hues from blues to pinks, with many starlets channeling the statue itself in metallic and nude tones. An evening full of ladies dressed up like real like princesses, these women are true style icons, and this carpet is their catwalk. So now, a rundown of the fashions at the 2010 Academy Awards.
There is no better way to start off than by the winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress, and America’s Sweetheart, Sandra Bullock. The celebrity icon looked statuesque and fit for her statue in a gold Marchesa gown and Jimmy Choo “Quiet” sandals. A true golden goddess, if we don’t say so ourselves.
Now, for the ladies in pink, and there were quite a few of them, in all shades of the feminine, flirty and perfect for spring hue. Anna Kendrick was a pretty pretty princess in her Elie Saab Haute Couture gown and a Judith Leiber clutch. Her co-star Vera Farmiga through hot pink out of the park in her stunning Marchesa number, and she pulled off the ruffles with perfection.
Next up is Demi Moore who was glowing in an Atelier Versace dress, Versace sandals, a Ferragamo Clutch and Van Cleef and Arpels jewels.
Rachel McAdams may have been my personal favorite of the night. Her watercolored Elie Saab Haute Couture gown and Ferragamo clutch were to die for. The dress lit up against the carpet, and the starlet looked like a real fashion icon.
Penelope Cruz, the on-screen siren, definitely looked hot in a Donna Karan Couture dress and Roger Vivier Haute Couture Folies clutch.
Singer, actress and all around amazingness Jennifer Lopez stunned in Giorgio Armani Prive gown and clutch with Cartier jewels and Ferragamo pumps.
Queen Latifah looked truly regal in her fabulous jeweled frock, and the lines of the dress are truly eye-catching.
From pinks to purples, Zoe Saldana’s dress was the talk of the night. With a jeweled top and a ruffled bottom full of color, she looked radiant from head to toe, and those shoes were seriously amazing. The dress was Givenchy, and we hope she gets to keep that stunner.
In line with Zoe Saldana was Charlize Theron who took a fashion risk. Love it or hate it, you decide, we are going with love. It is truly a high fashion couture piece, and if anyone can pull that off, it is Charlize. The dress was Dior Couture, as were the shoes, which she paired with Harry Winston jewels.
Now, the other favorite color of the evening was blue, although none of these ladies looked like they had the blues. From pale to navy and everything in between, navy is a safe color, but many of these ladies went far from playing it safe with their fashion choices.
First up, we have Maggie Gyllenhaal who looked like the belle of the ball in her Dried Van Noten gown, that looked a bit to us like the famous “Starry Night” painting.
Law and Order: SVU is one of my personal favorite shows, and no one truly realizes how stunning Mariska Hargitay is until she pops out on the red carpet. For the Academy Awards, the television star dazzled in navy Vera Wang paired with Fred Leighton jewels.
Mo’Nique went straight for the cobalt blue trend, and looked stunning in a Tadashi Shoji gown, Swarovski “Fan” clutch and Jimmy Choo “Clue” Platform Sandals. Her husband was quite the hot accessory, too.
Mariah Carey looked sexy yet totally refined in her Valentino number, with a stunning side slit, and H. Stern jewels.
Newcomer to the carpet, Gabourey Sidibe, maybe getting a ton of acclaim for her role in Precious, but we must say, she is truly taking some awesome fashion risks along the way. The starlet looked stunning in a gown by Marchesa and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.
Stunner Elizabeth Banks looked positively glowing in her Versace blue-gray gown, with detailing to die for.
Los Angeles fashionista and designer Nicole Richie graced the carpet in a fabulous boho-chic ensemble. The dress was Reem Acra which she paired with a Judith Leiber clutch, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Bally shoes.
Another popular color on the red carpet was metallics and nude tones, as if the celebrities were trying to re-incarnate the Oscar statue themselves. However, they looked dazzling in nude, which looked fresh and fun on the carpet.
Starlet Amanda Seyfried looked absolutely beautiful in an Armani Prive gown with Swarovski beaded detailing and Brian Atwood “Katie Bis” pumps.
Miley Cyrus looked age appropriate, fun and fashion forward in her Jenny Packham frock.
Cameron Diaz, Hollywood’s “it” girl, graced the red carpet in an Oscar de la Renta Fall 2010 collection dress with Cartier jewels, a Roger Vivier “Sesame” clutch and Brian Atwood gold satin “Wagner” pumps.
Kate Winslet played the part of the sophisticated, chic actress, which was not a stretch at all, in her Yves Saint Laurent dress and Tiffany gems.
Meryl Streep wore a dress by Project Runway alum, Chris March, which she accented with a Swarovski clutch and Jimmy Choo “Zena” sandals. The woman can do no wrong, I swear.
Trend-setting celebutante Diane Kruger failed to disappoint as she looked fabulous in her Chanel dress and Jaeger-Le-Coultre diamond bracelet.
Never is there a red carpet that passes that celebrities do not wear black. However, this year, the black dresses were bold and statement worthy, and nowhere near boring.
To start, we have Carey Mulligan, who looked fierce yet elegant in a Prada dress with “raso doppio tec” material, which she paired perfectly with Prada pleated “Duchesse” heels and a Prada clutch.
Country crooner, and total hottie, Faith Hill spruced up the red carpet in her black gown with black lace detailing. She looked rocker worthy and jaw-dropping.
Comedienne Tina Fey looked beautiful on the red carpet in a Michael Kors one shouldered gown, Jimmy Choo pumps, a Kotur clutch and Stephen Russell jewels.
And last, but certainly not least, is Sarah Jessica Parker. If there is a red carpet that she is on, she will definitely be note-worthy, make a statement and look totally fabulous. Tonight, I’m not sure if she was playing herself or channeling Carrie Bradshaw, but either way, she looked like the sophisticated, savvy New York City girl in Los Angeles. She brought her rays of sunshine with her, and woo’ed the crowd in her Chanel Couture gown and Fred Leighton jewels. The neckline was unlike anything I have ever seen, but the dress complimented with metallic rosettes in the front and back, was innovative, fun and dazzled on the carpet.

Lust vs. Must: Valentine's Accessories
By Samantha
Red, pink and hearts everywhere, Valentine’s Day is upon us. Now, the biggest question remains, what to wear for a hot date (or ladies) night out. One thing is for sure, whether it is for your hubby or potential prospects, you will want to look your best.
While some opt for a night of wining and dining, others spend the night in a more casual setting with a loved one. Single ladies, Valentine’s Day is one of the prime nights to go man-hunting, as all the taken dudes are out with their chicks. Whatever you decide to wear (don’t worry, we will cover that later), accessories are key to spruce up any outfit and create a look that will leave your man, and all other men, drooling. Valentine’s Day provides a great excuse to go shopping, however, some ladies don’t want to spend their entire paycheck on accessories for the night. But never fear, there are an array of options to lust after, and many that are easily attainable, and definite must-haves.
When it comes to a handbag for Valentine’s Day, cute and girly is always acceptable. This Judith Leiber “Heart n’ Soul” miniaudiere is definitely a lust-have item. When it comes to the chic-est handbags, Judith Leiber is definitely the go-to designer. She creates such funky pieces that remain elegant and classy, and are forever shimmering and glitzy. However, Judith Leiber is not in the budget of many fashionistas, but that doesn’t mean you have to look any less dazzling. Clara Kasavina makes an adorable heart shaped clutch, the Amore, in metallic silver, which is uber glam and definitely something fabulous to grab onto for your big night out.

One of the key pieces to any ensemble is shoes. Christian Louboutin’s “Glitter” Pump in hot pink has been making strides on red carpets everywhere. That famous red sole couples with hot pink tonal glitter is the ultimate lust-have for glamour gals everywhere. However, if you are a bit over red soles, or just don’t want to spend your money in one place, there is one heck of a fabulous must-have looming. Patricia Field, the woman behind Sex and the City, has super hot “Bordello” Hot Pink Glitter Platform Pumps for sale on her site, made by Pleaser. Lunar Lights and Confectionary Colors Make Chanel Couture Spring 2010
By Jessica
Fashion’s dark knight has lightened up for Couture Spring 2010 and we are not complaining. For his latest collection, Karl Lagerfeld steered clear of his signature color palette which usually comprises black and navy and decided to embrace the fresh hues of spring. The result: a breath of fresh spring air from the House of Chanel.
“Neon Baroque” is the catchphrase du jour and serves as an inspiration for the collection. The concept came to Lagerfeld in “an electronic flash in my head at five o’clock one morning. Silver and pastel.”(Style.com)
The show triggered off with a brand new rendition of the classic Chanel suit teamed up with culottes this time and all in fondant icing colors like lemon lime, candy-floss pink, frosted lilac, pistachio green and tangerine. Then came the batch of frothy tiered dresses in degradé, followed by exquisite silk gowns embroidered with what could only be molten metal blossoming into beautiful flowers.
The accessories added a futuristic touch what with the foil fingerless gloves and gossamer tights. As is always the case with Chanel, the shoes made a statement loud and proud. Sculpted heels studded with pearls made for perfect faux-boots, all in space-age silver of course.
With the clothes and accessories doing all the talking, the look is clean and fresh with a dab of red on the lips. Hair, however, took a new form reminiscent of Minnie Mouse with white highlights. — Dyuti Mishra

The new way to brand, Chanel Style
By Zoe
Okay girls, we love our personalized, individualized cell phones. We adore the fact that we could customize laptops to colors that match our outfits. Skin by Chanel is taking this idea one step further. Way further.
It’s the way to show the world that you use the best the crème de la crème of beauty products. And what better way than to have it imprinted on your forehead.
Yes, your forehead.
Ryan McSorley, who developed the Skin by Chanel Kit, has this to say about beauty branded skin: “The packaging is manufactured in Corian, giving a smooth finish, and the organic and pebble like form is intended to reflect our obsession with perfection.”
Whatever his reasoning, the kit includes a cleanser, toner and moisturiser. What’s different is there’s a headband in the kit to be tied around the head and worn while sleeping. The headband is made of silicone with a ‘Chanel logo’ on the underside. The result is an imprint that remains on your skin for a few hours after you wake up.
And while you will most definitely look like a walking billboard, especially if you already sport a logo on your bag, wallet or clothes, this will show the world that you’re staying “ahead” of the world with oh-so-pretty Chanel approved skin.

Chanel Pre-Fall 2010
By Faith

Shanghai is known as the “Paris of East” so what better place for Karl Lagerfeld to have shown Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection. The collection was titled “Paris Shanghai” and was an ode to 1930s Shanghai and the opulence of its imperial court. The collection was a beautiful departure from Chanel’s traditional black and white backdrop with splashes of bright reds and purples.
The collection oozed luxury and femininity. Beautiful dresses were frequent in the collection in form-fitting silhouettes and beautiful fabrics from Chanel’s signature tweed to printed silks. Coats were ravishing with out-of-this-world detailing from armored sleeves befitting a samurai to monogram Chanel Cs. The accessories were stunning from cascading beaded necklaces, long statement earrings, Chanel’s signature brooches, and thigh-high boots with zipper detailing.
The hair and makeup for the collection were completely elegant. Bouffants were the hairstyles of the day adding to the feeling of luxury and old world glamour. Eyebrows were thick and exaggerated and the eyes were accentuated with black eyeliner to truly give the feeling of Chinese aristocracy.
Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2010 Collection is one that will go down in history and shows an appreciation for the Shanghai of times past. More highlights from the collection below (Images courtesy of WWD).

Kimberly Ovitz: Focused on Fashion
By Michelle
Some may consider LA designer Kimberly Ovitz a success already as she started her own label at the ripe age of 25, but it may be that we have only seen a preview of her capabilities. Ovitz grew up in LA but moved to NY to attend Parsons School of Design and apprenticed at J. Crew, and later at Chanel in Paris. Still more impressive was Ovitz desire to attend Brown University and gain a liberal arts education instead of gaining more trade school experience. While at Brown she gained knowledge of the historical structure of women’s and men’s clothing and obtained a degree in Art History.
When Ovitz returned to LA with her portfolio she jumped into her own “schooling” of fashion by working with Tara Subkoff of Imitation of Christ, as an assistant designer at Ya Ya clothing and as a designer for Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent. Equipped with enough experience under her fashionable belt Ovitz was finally ready to let her dream set sail and launched her own line in Spring of 2009. Now in her third collection, Ovitz style represents a minimalist design inspired by architect, Frank Gehry. Ovitz Spring 2010 line consists of wrapped silhouettes, body-conscious dresses and slouchy separates in unique fabrics like goat leather, ‘cobweb’ linen, and stretch Polyurethane.
