Issey Miyake: Fall/Winter 2010 Men's Collection
By Samantha
The Issey Miyake design team debuted the Fall/Winter 2010 Collection Thursday in Paris. As eager attendees wait on the outside, the unsuspecting spectators would soon be welcomed into the coffee-house inspired showroom as conceptualized by creative director, Dai Fujiwara. Complete with an espresso bar installed specifically for this season’s event, this only further set the stage for the fashions that facilitate an easy transition from work day, to lazy weekend.
With the Miyake Design studio entering its 40th year this year, the Japanese label did not disappoint with edgy fashions that prove innovative and come riddled with harmonious fusions of texture, color and graphic detailing.
Chunky scarves, vibrant caps, suede shoes, even aprons, are donned by the models as they further sanction the necessary garb for any languid weekend. Double breasted sport jackets, collarless woven shirts and grandpa sweaters frequent the runway, leaving even the audience’s most attention getting, male-fashionistas gaping and wanting more.
No other salon du café in the city could contend with this eloquent tutorial on how to progressively take any frenzied work week down a notch to the tranquilities of a much needed, relaxing weekend. Miyake gives a java infused jolt to Paris’ four day extravaganza of menswear shows, both good, to the last drop.

John Varvatos To Launch Accessories Line for Fall 2010
By Samantha
Lifestyle brand, John Varvatos, has expanded its collection to include accessories for Fall 2010. The accessories line will feature leather goods geared toward a younger, edgier demographic, with a “preppy-meets-rocker style” look based on an “imperfectly perfect” feel.
The fabulously-designed collection will include bags, small leather goods and accessories, belts and even some funky jewelry. The goal of the line is to expand the John Varvatos offerings to its hip male consumer at a reasonable price point, retailing from $65 to $550.
The collection, which will be exclusive to the USA, has five groupings underneath the label: caribou leather, antique calf, pebble grain, canvas and a nylon/leather grouping silk-screened with fun American motifs, from marijuana leaves to guitars. A peace sign hand and flag is a reoccurring motif that appears on most of the pieces. Many of the pieces also feature hand finishes.
The collection features luxurious textiles keeping with the John Varvatos sleek aesthetic. However, there are fabulous additions in chains and funky hardware that add a younger sensibility.
John Varvatos USA accessories complete the designer’s portfolio as a lifestyle brand, and bring sophisticated edge to his adoring male fans. The line will be available at John Varvatos stores.

Man of Style | David Beckham
By Jessica
I, POSHGLAMer Jessica, have been given the very difficult task of picking a man of style, whose boyishly handsome looks, and debonair swagger, makes him fashion’s most irresistible icon. Sigh, what a tough job I have.
The first deliciously dapper heartthrob is none other than soccer stud, David Beckham. It’s only fitting that the husband of POSH Spice is as fashion-forward and suave as his wife, Victoria Beckham. In impeccably-fitting suits and a signature buzzed cut, David Beckham refuses to be upstaged by his fashionable other half.
Whether watching the L.A. Lakers game in a fitted tee, cap and aviator sunglasses or working the
red-carpet in a monochromatic three piece suit, Beckham’s style aesthetic is always masculine, seductive and confident.
He is as comfortable in his soccer uniform as he is in a dashing, tailored suit or an unbuttoned plaid shirt and motorcycle jacket with a rugged pair of jeans.
Suave, without a doubt, but we love his scantily-clad, drool-inducing Emporio Armani underwear ads just a little more than his clothing choices.
Currently playing in the World Cup for AC Milan, Beckham is also kick-starting a career as a fashion designer. In the past week, the rumor mill has been abuzz with reports that David Beckham is following in the Louboutin-clad footsteps of wife, Victoria, and trying his hand at designing.
Beckham previously designed a Fall Men’s line for Adidas Originals by Originals which included classic-American designs and brightly-colored sneakers. His latest design venture will include a Full Men’s collection for the couples’ line, dVb, which leaves us with one question: do the clothes come with a set of chiseled abs? If so, women, everywhere, will be in line to buy his designs for their significant other.

Cable-Knitting
By David
We’re all familiar with that ever so prevalent type of knitting in which the arrangement of stitches is uniquely styled, spelling out the fully blown chilly season. In the past few years the cable-knit has significantly transitioned from utilitarian to stylish. Oversized and thick, this iconic piece has this transformative capacity to bring out shape, texture and of course warmth, to your ensemble. Fundamentally, you can’t go wrong with this winter staple, found in all sorts of great colors like gray, black or even cabernet.

There is no concrete prescription on how to sport cable-knit. By itself or layered, as it can sometimes serve as outerwear, it’s almost a foolproof stratagem. However, keep certain things in mind. Oversized, the cable-knit will effectuate best with slimmer pants or jeans. Think skinny corduroys and pair with a winter tan boot. For smarter situations, pair with slimmer formal pants and layer with a dress shirt. Finally, for visual interest, accessorize with a contrasting scarf.

Hugo Boss Grand Opening
By David
On September 17th Hugo Boss celebrated the grand opening of it’s newest mens store, located in Roosevelt Mall on Long Island. Sponsored by Gotham Magazine and Grey Goose, the event featured delectable hors d’oeuvres (the mini shrimp tacos were my favorite) and delicious bottomless cocktails. As an added incentive, the store offered 20% off all purchases that evening. Characterized by quality fabrics, classic cuts, and rich textures, I must say that from the suiting to the sportswear, the new F/W collection looked fantastic. When you make your trip out to the store, ask for Josh, the Store Manager, and tell him David sent you. For more news and information on mens style, following me at www.twitter.com/damstyle.

On Outerwear
By David

As the temperatures drop and the days get shorter, wardrobe transitions switch to
winter mode, full on, and outerwear becomes the empirical piece of the season. Ideally, if you have the closet space and the budget, you could splurge on all sorts of outerwear, in all the colors and styles you want.
However, outerwear, particularly winter coats, should remain relatively traditional and timeless. This means an investment in a piece that will last. This longevity should be attributed to quality fabric that will hold up to keep you warm and classic style that can last for more than just a season.
Refrain from eccentric cuts, patterns, and hooded coats. Simply, leave the frills behind and don’t consider anything that isn’t a classic coat. Additionally, leave it to the archetype of unfailing colors. Black, gray and navy are timeless colors that have that ageless tag of elegance, modernity and clout. Your winter coat is one that keeps you warm but also speaks to your character. It is a piece that adorns suits and work clothes agreeably but also works just as well with denim and more casual ensembles.

Summer Pattern Staples
By David
Worn in the proper way, checkered patterns can invigorate your wardrobe and spice up your look. The great thing about checkered patterns is their sense of unpretentious joie de vivre, and these days with so many colors, prints and styles they can suit just about every man out there.
Set off the Madras

Crisply starched or faded, these combed dyed patches of yarn speak of an effortless and classic summer. The trick is to never wear it head to toe, instead pair shorts, a shirt or even a tie with something solid and basic like a charcoal crew tee or cardigan.
Go Gingham

Quintessential to American summers, this pattern should already be a staple in your wardrobe. In less conspicuous tones like dark brown and purple it has the sophisticated capacity to bring out a pretty strong sense of collected cool. Consider sporting the bigger checks seen around nowadays, a fresh spin on the pattern.
Seek Seersucker

The pinched finish on this very comfortable cotton is perfect for the summer, keeping things breathable and cool. Seersucker’s puckered like quality keeps things low maintenance with no ironing or pressing really required before you wear it. Pick a fitted light grey blazer with an relaxed white summer shirt underneath.
What’s Right For You?
As an image consultant, I’m always telling my clients to make sure that the relationship between their clothes and their physical features work. Here’s tip to keep in mind when wearing patterns: the more pattern and texture you have in your hair and skin, the more pattern and texture you can accept closest to your face. For instance, if you have freckles and curly hair, examples of pattern and texture, you will look very good in a shirt with pattern, such as gingham, and a jacket with texture, such as seersucker. Now this isn’t to say that you will not look great in these combinations if you don’t have pattern or texture. It’s simply a guide that image consultants sometimes use to help people make the wardrobe decisions.
