American Eagle Summer 2010 Collection
By Zoe
Even though frigid winds dominate the East Coast, American Eagle already has summer on its mind with their new collection. The American Eagle brand that many associate with is growing up—the women’s collection has more boyfriend cut pieces, batwing silhouettes, floral patterns, and casual bohemian tastes.
Also finding themselves in the shift from walking advertisements to tasteful matching and sharp styles is the men’s collection that features fun graphics and hip shorts for the summertime.
Fans of the aerie line are about to be rewarded with the botanical and aerie color lines set to release in April. The botanical line features hand creams, body butters, body lotions, body washes and scrubs, and fragrance mists in flavorful scents, such as fresh citrus and papaya, and apple blossom and cucumber.
The key element to note about the line is its richness in antioxidants and vitamin E, as well as a natural approach where ingredients like parabens, petrolatum and synthetic dyes are all eliminated. The aerie color line also spotlights botanical extracts in shades that are sure to compliment any skin color with their glosses, liners, eyeshadows, and mascaras.

Hernan Lander Presentation at OpenHouse Gallery
By Zoe
On Friday, Feburary 12, champagne and wine glasses clinked together in celebration of Hernan Lander’s fall/winter collection. Interestingly enough, the young Dominican Republic born designer opted for the use of mannequins to display his clothing as opposed to models. The mannequins provided an emphasis on the pieces themselves and anonymity of the person wearing the look.
His philosophy emphasized how anyone could wear these chic pieces.
Admirers of the collection tweeted in delight and posted BlackBerry pics of favorite pieces. One highlight was the slim-fit cropped fur jacket worn atop a high-collar purple blouse and paired with skinny black jeans. Another was a silver dress adorned with snakeskin.
Not only has Lander created pieces that are well tailored, he was able to construct a bold style of serious high taste.

Prabal Gurung Fall/Winter 2010
By Zoe
The anticipation and excitement of Singapore-born Nepalese Prabal Gurung’s catwalk debut ran high at the Bryant Park tents on February 13th. The models walked confidently and boldly down the runway in Gurung’s play on positive and negative space.
With hair pinned high and slicked back, the models revealed a collection dominated by shades of blacks, whites, reds and greens. With fabric floating over their bodies, the volume in folds, along with the close-bodied designs of the dresses all completely complimented the female figure. Runway notables included a black hooded sweater highlighted in red and cinched by a black belt and fur adorned outerwear.
Despite donning the black shades, Wintour broke her stoic demeanour and cracked a smile when a jacket adorned with fur passed by. With such approval, this surely will not be the last viewing of Prabal Gurung’s creations.

A Quiet Riot with Buffi Simone Jashanmal
By Leah
Dubai based stylist, philanthropist and designer Buffi Simone Jashanmal is adding a whole lot of truth to the idea that fashion is a universal language. Like most fashionistas, Buffi started at a young age and worked hard to make her mark in the fashion industry. It’s no secret that she’s doing just that and then some.
Having studied in the fashion capitals of London and New York City (London College of Fashion and Parsons) and working with labels of Armani Exchange, Andrea Lieberman and J. Crew, it’s apparent Buffi comprises a surplus of experience. Although Buffi has a mere three collections under her line Quiet Riot, she’s already gained a lot of attention in United Arab Emirates, Europe and the United States. Recently she made the Ahlan Top 100 List in Dubai and did New York City’s S/S 2010 shows. Her designs are edgy and flirtatious, comparable to that of legendary Betsey Johnson. And when she’s not busy creating, Buffi spends her free time knitting, raising money through her charity club, Knit ’n’ Knatter. Creativity is without a doubt part of her name.
“I am busy inside and outside of work, constantly being a creative machine!” exclaims Buffi. Similar to her designs, this lady knows how to make a statement and is definitely a force to keep an eye on in the arena of hot and fresh fashion designers.

J. Mendel Spring 2010
By Leah
When you take a look at the luxe fabrics, intricate detailing and the feminine overlays of Parisian J. Mendel’s latest collection, you feel special. The pieces had sculptural tulle, chiffon and organza alongside cascading flowers and frills that put Cinderella’s gown to shame. Spotted: were structural skirts, playsuits and divine cream shifts, all very princess-like and demure. Pegged pants and tweeds gave the clothing finesse and the colors ranging from pale blues, creams, grays, peaches and beiges to yellows, pearly whites and pale browns, made the fabric pop with just the right amount of shading. And the accessories were eye-catching and subtle not to overpower the clothes, enough to accentuate the already feminine vibe of the collection—it was a show to remember—this Frenchman really outdid himself again with meticulously done eveningwear and soft furs.
J. Mendel is definitely one to watch for Spring attire come 2010 …are you snagging your own pieces yet?

Covet Shop's Fashion Week Must-Haves
By Faith

Fashion Week (or better yet Fashion Month) is less than two weeks away. The excitement is starting in cities all around the world and it is tangible in New York where the tents at Bryant Park are now standing. Fashionistas are clamoring for new pieces to fit into their wardrobes and there is no better place to enhance the already existing assortment than Covet Shop.
Covet Shop is new, having just started in May 2009. Founders Nancy Chuang and Gregg Friedman have combined their backgrounds in fashion, business, and web design to create a high-end online consignment boutique. Designers such as Stella McCartney, Brian Atwood, Martin Margiela, Balenciaga and more are available to customers. Each piece is hand-selected and truly unique.
Like any fashionista, Nancy knows the chaos that surrounds Fashion Week from scheduling to outfit planning. She has given us her Fashion Week must-haves from Covet Shop. The dress to the right is a beautiful emerald piece by Stella McCartney. Nancy’s take: ” Just because it’s Fall doesn’t mean we can’t wear color. This lollipop green is as delicious as it looks. Fashion Week is about popping against the grain while doing it with style and ease.” More of Nancy’s picks below.

Stella McCartney Appaloosa Tote: ” I love the texture of this bag. The separate compartments and pockets help you stay organized so you don’t have to dig to find what you’re looking for…a necessity for any fast-paced fashionista.”

Alice + Olivia Stripe Boyfriend Blazer: ” The stripes on this blazer perfectly complement its rich color. Because it’s a variation of neutral tones, it’s an extremely versatile piece that can be worn with almost anything.”

Habitual Drifter Jeans: “Everybody needs a great pair of black skinny jeans. They are a great alternative to leggings, always add confidence and can be interpreted to match anyone’s signature look.”
Maison Martin Margiela Slash Ankle Boot: “A slightly updated take on a classic, these edgy black boots are the perfect staple shoe in a chic fall wardrobe. They will break in nicely, look better with age and add just a touch of high fashion flare to any Fashion Week ensemble.”

MonAri1962 Spring 2010 Collection
By Faith
I’m truly excited about the MonAri1962 Spring 2010 Collection. Being of Native American descent, it thrills me to hear designer Ari Harris’s upcoming collection is influenced by Native American culture. MonAri1962 is set to take New York City by storm this fall, bringing the strength and power of the American Indian to the runway. With Native-American history in his family, Harris translated elements of his culture into his dream collection. His creative juices began after a recent visit to see relatives on their Indian Reservation in upstate New York. And after a visit to the American Indian Museum in Manhattan, Harris knew it was time to reveal the “Kaiya” collection.
What to expect. Simple color schemes of white, putty, and black set in three segments of the show. The white pieces set the stage for the pure existence of the Indians prior to the war, while the beige colors will be worn for the second segment to show the grim period of the fighting. Finally, the black will lead you into the spiritual world, representing the ghosts of the fallen Indians. To compliment the minimalistic color palette of the line, the collection is accented by vibrant uses of color, like red to show the suffering of the Indians in the civil war. And to compliment the theme of the show the models will be adorned in shells, glass beads, and metal jewelry.
Harris made his way as a stylist under the likes of, Patti Labelle, Deborah Cox, Janet Jackson, Russell Crowe, and Tina Turner. He ran Suko’s boutique on Melrose and did costume design while in Los Angeles. Originally, Harris entered the New York fashion realm as designer under the group label 4xF. After positive feedback on his creations, he began his own label as MonAri1962. Other than Harris’s plans for several fall presentations, he anticipates to present at Philadelphia’s Fashion Week coming soon. Enjoy.

Jeffrey Chow For Poleci
By Faith

New head designer for Poleci, Jeffrey Chow, previewed his first collection with pre-spring 2010 in New York City on Thursday, July 29th. Jeffrey’s inspiration for his first collection for Poleci is a combination of abstract and geometric prints infusing fresh colors to create organic and modern silhouettes. Exquisitely draped pants and blouses in lightweight fabrics allow for the Poleci customer to incorporate new styles into their current wardrobe.
Chow was named head designer of Poleci in May 2009. He is no stranger to the design world. After graduating from Central St. Martins School of Art in London, which boasts John Galliano and Matthew Williamson as graduates, with a BA in fashion design, he began his career working for Perry Ellis International. Chow went on to create his own namesake line, Jeffrey Chow in 2003. His first collection, which debuted in spring/summer 2004, was shown at the Cartier Mansion Flagship on Fifth Avenue, the first fashion show to be staged at the historic location.
Following his Cartier showing, Chow received the prestigious Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award and presented his collections at Bryant Park. Chow has worked with Esprit, Tommy Hilfiger, Emilio Pucci and most recently Lilly Pulitzer. Celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Scarlett Johansson, Chloe Sevigny, Sheryl Crow and Lee Radziwill have all been spotted wearing his designs. Chow will be showing his Spring 2010 collection in a presentation on September 12th during New York Fashion Week. More of his beautiful designs are below. Enjoy!
