By Samantha
New York Fashion Week may have just passed, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t have a piece of the action. Plus, we are just in the midst of many other Fashion Weeks abroad. Maybelline New York acted as one of the official makeup sponsors of New York Fashion Week, doing the makeup for 7 of the top shows including RVCA x Erin Wasson, Michael Angel, Vivienne Tam, Custo Barcelona, Carlos Miele, Tracy Reese, Max Azria and William Rast. Taking the tents by storm, models walked the runway with lush lashes and glam lips, all courtesy of the Maybelline makeup artists, led by Charlotte Willer.
In the spirit of New York Fashion Week, Maybelline is giving away one “Get Ready for Fashion Week” giftbag which includes the official Maybelline New York NYFW tote, a Maybelline Loves NY mug, a travel sewing kit, Great Lash mascara, Color Sensational lip-color and Shine Sensational lip gloss.
Take a cue from Maybelline’s fabulous makeup trends and look just like the models that were on the catwalk. Throw on a great outfit, and your own sidewalk can be your own personal runway with your bold lips or smoldering eyes completing the look. Whether you choose to go for a “less is more” look or you want to be daring and go “all out,” let Maybelline take you there.

Edwing D'Angelo Takes His Fashions Behind the Scenes
By Samantha
For the second year in a row, luxury designer Edwing D’Angelo has been asked to be the featured designer at the NAACP Awards, with a presentation backstage for celebrities and super lucky VIP’s. I had the chance to speak with D’Angelo today, in the middle of his preparations for the show, to learn a bit about him and a lot about his glamorous collection.
Just coming off from New York Fashion Week, the runway collections will be worn by models backstage at the NAACP Awards, who will also act as hosts, escorting celebrities on stage. Chyna Layne, of Precious, who is the designer’s current muse, will also be one of the celebrities wearing one of the designers custom made creations.
D’Angelo is Columbian born, and the 5th in a generation of tailors, who took his unique acquired skill-set to the next level, with a lot of passion, and even more work. After graduating from law school, he worked in law firms for 12 years, but always had a passion to be doing something different. When his sister’s prom came about, he designed her dress, and instantly, her friends all wanted something created by the designer. From there, his line of one-of-a-kind, high-end pieces was created. Well, not that easily. He worked for 2 years more as a lawyer, saving every penny, working at nights, and having people put together his samples during the day while he worked. After two years, he officially left law, and became a designer extraordinaire. In August of 2002, his first boutique opened in Harlem.
Two of the first celebrities to don his gowns were Vivica Fox and Patti la Belle. With the success of the line, and its ultra luxurious vibe, the designer picked up and moved his boutique to SoHo. For Fall/Winter 2010, his 10th collection, he was inspired by 1940s and 50s New York and Barbra Streisand’s “New York State of Mind.” Back in the day when women all dressed to a peek of sophistication, fully dressed, with the arrival of second tier monarchies and princess moving to New York, D’Angelo sought to bring that vibe back with a modern twist of edge. Black was the predominant color, with pops of other colors throughout, and his signature orange lining giving an added kick. The designer is way ahead, and even let me know that for Spring 2011, he is thinking of a garden-ish theme, with Lost Eden as the inspiration.
The Edwing D’Angelo collection has a young, modern vibe that is fresh yet luxurious. He dreams of dressing Megan Fox, Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Lautner and Will Smith (yes, his line is available for men, too). His show backstage at the NAACP Awards is part of his plan of moving into the Hollywood lifestyle, garnering a larger following amongst celebrities and high-end consumers. While his pieces are one-of-a-kind, he plans to expand to create pieces that are also off the rack, but he will still continue designing unique pieces for his clientele. Regardless, he plans to stick to creating collections that are epitomized by sheer elegance.

Through the Spy Glass: House of Spy
By Jessica
Spring is around the corner and it is time to lighten up with the House of Spy’s latest collection. A mélange of fun, flirty and fabulous, the line of printed frocks and jumpsuits is perfect for warmer weather.
Brainchild of former biology student, Wendy Wong, House of Spy is now a wardrobe staple in every fashionista’s closet in Ontario, Canada, where the brand was launched. To our delight, it is slowly creeping into stylish boutiques in the US and throughout the rest of the globe. The brand is gaining popularity and reaching new heights at the speed of light; it was named one of the world’s best brands by Sportswear International in 2007.
The new collection resonates with this season’s edgy playfulness. With strong prints and bold hues, these clothes make statements all their own. The tangerine hued draped dress and asymmetrical hemlines evoke lots of edgy attitude while the dirndl silhouette and empire-line dress instill a feminine vibe. The one key item from the collection that caught my eye, however, was the cropped jumpsuit with its perfect tailoring and flawless fit.
Go ahead and add a little zing to your wardrobe with the House of Spy
The collection is available all over New York and California and can be purchased online at the House of Spy.

New Logo, Continued Luxury for Intermix
By Sophie
It is a new logo that reminds us of the fashion-forward boutique, Intermix. With 24 locations nationwide, the luxury retail haven continues to give clients a unique shopping experience.
Blending art, fashion and beauty, the new Intermix ads illustrate the company’s ability to combine all things luxurious with a staff that is prepared to help shoppers find exactly what they need to look chic.
“We wanted the ad campaign to continue to be playful and optimistic, as the first one was, and to incorporate the idea of the marriage of art and fashion,”Khajak Keledjian, CEO of Intermix, said.
“The modernity that we are infusing into these changing aspects is part of us growing as a brand, alongside the attitudes of the consumer.”
The new design was created by ORPHAN, a design company best know for its work with high-end fashion companies such as Thakoon and Hugo Boss.

Colette Malouf Goes to East Africa and Comes Back Bolder Than Ever
By Samantha
Manhattanite accessory designer, Colette Malouf’s latest collection is inspired by her recent trip to East Africa. In this vivid collection, Malouf celebrates the majestic landscape of Kenya and the colorful splendor of Masai. Her vibrant range of accessories reflects the exquisite lands through its geometric prints, fun textiles and bold use of color.
New York sensibilities are melded together with East African culture to create a collection that includes turban head-wraps and wooden costume jewelry. Her love of Africa is evident throughout the collection yet each piece boasts a New York street vibe that gives it a modern twist.
In 1987, Malouf came to fashion acclaim with her now infamous ponytail holders, selling over 100,000 in the first year. Now, with each new and expanded collection, we see Malouf’s artistic designs and inspirations come to life.
Malouf grew up surrounded by the New York fashion scene with her family’s couture lounge wear business in her backyard. She found herself at a young age enamored with her grandmother’s collection of ’30s, ’40s and ’50s couture accessories and clothing. It is the pieces she
adorned herself with then that she uses as constant sources of inspiration today.
Malouf strives to make each collection both classic and elegant, while giving each piece a funky edge that makes it noticeable. She brings her fashion street sense together with her long love of couture to create artful accessories.
Fashion lovers have seen her collections on the screen in Sex and the City and on Gossip Girl. She has also collaborated with Michael Kors and Derek Lam for their Fashion Week runway presentations. Malouf counts Oprah, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway as sincere fans of her collections. The collection is available at Henri Bendel and Bergdorf Goodman.
Visit Colette Malouf for more information on the designer and her collections.

Nonoo Lyons Makes Jackets the New Wardrobe Staple
By Samantha
Forget your go-to shoes, “it” bag or classic LBD. Jackets are the new must-have staple for a woman’s wardrobe, thanks to the New York based brand, Nonoo Lyons. Designers Deborah Lyons and Misha Nonoo, who launched their line in Fall 2009 and presented their first fashion week presentation for Spring 2010, have found a retailer for their brand: the Los Angeles luxury store, Satine and Diavolina.
While the prices are steep, retailing from $600 to $1100, Nonoo Lyons is unique in its brand concept of offering a range of jackets that can produce an array of looks. Nonoo Lyons jackets are investment pieces, meant to take the place of your LBD or killer shoes as the centerpiece that
creates and defines your look.
For Spring 2010, the ladies created a 12-jacket collection, and made its focal point “Calendar Girls” with each jacket portraying a month of the Nonoo Lyons calendar. Photographed at the famed Coney Island, each calendar girl is adorned in a phenomenally tailored, bold colored, fun and wearable jacket.
For more information, visit Nonoo Lyons.

Put a modern twist on a traditional holiday
By Zoe
Who knew the festival of lights could be so fashionable? Well with these fabulous Menorahs, you could defiantly add a little oh-la-la into your Jewish holiday.
One artist–Jonathan Adler–is doing just that. Adler first tried his hand at pottery during summer camp when at twelve years-old. After begging his parents to buy him his own wheel & kiln, Adler spent his teenage years in the basement throwing pots.
His first commercial pottery venture occurred in 1994 when he sold some of his pots to Barney’s. Adler traveled Peru in 1997 to a workshop by the sea and a creative tsunami ensued. Adler launched his first boutique in New York’s SoHo district, and between 2002 and 2005, he expanded his collection to furniture and home accessories. Adler also spearheaded five new stores across the country.
The Menorah has a modern shape for a traditional form and is created from polished nickel & hand-welded at right angles.
