Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2010

By Faith

Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall 2010 Collection is a reminder of his genius and amazing vision. There’s a chance that his line will continue, but surely it will not be the same.

The collection is completely in line with what McQueen is always known for: stellar graphic prints and expert tailoring. There is a Victorian overtone in many of the pieces, though naturally McQueen’s quirky, yet avant-garde nature spins the era completely and ever so delightfully on its head. Like every one of his collections, the looks are not for the faint-of-heart boasting leather, sequins, and shaggy fur on occasion.

The footwear is to-die-for in natural McQueen fashion: sky high pumps and booties most likely already in Daphne Guinness’ closet.

We are anxiously awaiting his Fall 2010 Collection, sure to be nothing short of awe-inspiring. For now, Pre-Fall 2010 will curb the suspense.

Function Meets Fantasy in Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2010

By Jessica

The future is now. That’s the message in Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest collection for Balenciaga where architectural shapes, bursts of color and printed palm trees live in perfect harmony.

Designing for the woman who views Fashion as art, Ghesquière imaginatively infuses an avante garde aesthetic with sportswear basics—the trench coat, pant, suit and dress.

Casual statement pieces, like dresses and jackets, become a walking canvas when painterly prints are splashed across the front. Pants and blouses are rendered artful and modern with futuristic shapes like curving backs, oversize shoulders and exaggerated hips.

Even the accessories embody the spirit of the future with tights in bold, primary colors and sky-high platforms inspired by the French industrial designer, Charlotte Perriand.

At once casual and supernatural, Nicolas Ghesquière’s reinvention of sportswear with ultramodern shapes and extraordinary color makes basic anything but.

Jason Wu Pre-Fall 2010

By Faith

17m JW For his Pre-Fall 2010 Collection, Jason Wu stepped outside of the box and gave his feminine delicate pieces a tougher edge. His newfound use of leather gave his pieces a look never before seen by the designer and the hemlines in the collection called for something naughtier than collections past.

The silhouettes of the collection were in usual Wu fashion with a heavy emphasis on dresses, but with separates making a stronger showing. Hemlines were short with none falling below the knee. Dresses varied from shirtdresses, sleeveless sheaths, and strapless with a cinched waist and a beautiful tie at the front, fit for an evening out. Suits made a showing and the only piece of outerwear was a hoodie with a pleated front and a fur collar that could double as a dress.

The color palette of the collection was rich in fall tones from warm chocolates, to burgundy, to olive and navy. The hair and makeup for the collection was chic and elegant. Hair was pulled into a side-swept chignon and for makeup, there was a heavy emphasis on the eyes with a nude lip.

Jason Wu’s Pre-Fall 2010 Collection is still fit for women who lunch, but who aren’t afraid to do so in leather. More highlights from the collection below (Images courtesy of Style.com).

Rachel Roy Pre-Fall 2010

By Faith

04m rrFor her Pre-Fall 2010 Collection, Rachel Roy added military elements to her trademark feminine sensibility creating a beautiful and harmonious contrast. Roy didn’t shy away from color in the least, letting the remnants of Spring linger and showing a pre-cursor for what is to come for Fall 2010.

The silhouettes for the collection were completely feminine with an added military edge. Dresses had a variety of shapes and prints from floral shirtdresses, to strapless sheaths, to military-inspired with epaulets. Skirts were present as high-waisted pencil skirts and ruched adding a perfect match for a suit. Pants were shown from skinnies with piping down the front and zippered ankles, to menswear-inspired trousers, to shorts paired with tights. For any military-inspired collection, blazers are necessary, and Roy showed them in fun florals, cropped, and oversized in leather.

The hair and makeup for the collection were simple and feminine. Hair was pulled back and makeup was kept fresh with rosy lips.

Rachel Roy’s Pre-Fall 2010 Collection is a perfect match of her signature feminine silhouettes with masculine detailing giving women something new and fresh to add to their wardrobes. More highlights from the collection below (Images courtesy of Style.com).

Diane von Furstenberg Pre-Fall 2010

By Faith

00240m dvfFor her Pre-Fall 2010 Collection, Diane von Furstenberg did what she does best: feminine and flirty pieces that any woman would love. Layering is used in almost every look and prints are vibrant in usual DVF fashion.

The silhouettes in the collection are  fun and carefree. Dresses are shown in flowing fabrics with bare legs. Rompers and shorts are plentiful and blazers, sweaters, and jackets are frequent in order to create that fall, layered look. Prints are juxtaposed with knits creating a beautiful mix of spring and fall and the palette of the collection is a mix between bright summer colors and neutral autumn tones. Accessories from the collection are open-toe platforms (great to pair with tights for fall dressing) and a range of handbags, which DVF is building out each season. Berets and gloves are also shown adding the perfect finishing touches to the fall ensembles.

The hair and makeup for the collection was natural and easy. Faces were fresh and hair was tousled letting the clothing and accessories take centerstage.

Diane von Furstenberg’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection is for women who love mixing and matching and who want to add a bit of fun to their wardrobe. More highlights from the collection below (Images courtesy of Style.com).

Chanel Pre-Fall 2010

By Faith

chanel06

Shanghai is known as the “Paris of East” so what better place for Karl Lagerfeld to have shown Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection. The collection was titled “Paris Shanghai” and was an ode to 1930s Shanghai and the opulence of its imperial court. The collection was a beautiful departure from Chanel’s traditional black and white backdrop with splashes of bright reds and purples.

The collection oozed luxury and femininity. Beautiful dresses were frequent in the collection in form-fitting silhouettes and beautiful fabrics from Chanel’s signature tweed to printed silks. Coats were ravishing with out-of-this-world detailing from armored sleeves befitting a samurai to monogram Chanel Cs. The accessories were stunning from cascading beaded necklaces, long statement earrings, Chanel’s signature brooches, and thigh-high boots with zipper detailing.

The hair and makeup for the collection were completely elegant. Bouffants were the hairstyles of the day adding to the feeling of luxury and old world glamour. Eyebrows were thick and exaggerated and the eyes were accentuated with black eyeliner to truly give the feeling of Chinese aristocracy.

Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2010 Collection is one that will go down in history and shows an appreciation for the Shanghai of times past. More highlights from the collection below (Images courtesy of WWD).

Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2010

By Faith

11m bpFor Pre-Fall 2010, Christopher Bailey is taking Burberry Prorsum back to its roots with a strong showing in outerwear and an overall militaristic feeling. The classic trench silhouette is shown in a multitude of textures from wool to fur and Bailey is doing what he does best, creating a perfect juxtaposition of menswear with feminine silhouettes.

Though militaristic at the core, the collection is still supremely feminine with every piece being tailored to a woman’s every curve. Outerwear dominates the collection in cropped, over-the-top furs like the one seen to the left as well as cropped bombers lined in shearling and so much more. The classic trench silhouette takes on a whole new meaning in wool and even with embroidered detailing. Dresses are shown with plunging necklines and are all figure-fitting with ruching and lace adding that feminine feel to the collection.

The palette of the collection is completely fall with rich olive tones prevailing as well as navy, burgundy, and black. Purple makes an appearance as well as winter white.

Burberry Prorsum’s Pre-Fall 2010 Collection is full of wardrobe staples for a woman who knows a tailored fit is the best fit. More highlights from the collection below (Images courtesy of Style.com).
