If you thought Twitter wouldn’t break the news…

By Zoe

RR

Think again. So was the case on December 21 when Rachel Roy announced she’ll be traveling to Africa with R&B singer Estelle.

The announcement was also made on Facebook, in which the famed jewelry designer wrote: “Next month Estelle & I will travel to Africa to meet women survivors of genocide, abuse & poverty. Through Fairwinds Trading these women are able to earn an income by creating exquisite handmade goods which are sold in the U.S. I am grateful to play a role in helping to change their lives by providing jobs & offering their handcrafted pieces through RRR.”

The handcrafted pieces consisting of clutches & bracelets that are made by women in Rwanda and Tanzania will be offered as part of the RACHEL Rachel Roy collection. Proceeds from each piece help benefit the lives of victims of abuse, genocide and poverty by providing them the opportunity to earn money and find financial independence.

Through Twitter and Facebook, Estelle, Rachel, and her ten year-old daughter Ava will chronicle their journey with photographs and anecdotes about their amazing international venture.

Rachel Roy Pre-Fall 2010

By Faith

04m rrFor her Pre-Fall 2010 Collection, Rachel Roy added military elements to her trademark feminine sensibility creating a beautiful and harmonious contrast. Roy didn’t shy away from color in the least, letting the remnants of Spring linger and showing a pre-cursor for what is to come for Fall 2010.

The silhouettes for the collection were completely feminine with an added military edge. Dresses had a variety of shapes and prints from floral shirtdresses, to strapless sheaths, to military-inspired with epaulets. Skirts were present as high-waisted pencil skirts and ruched adding a perfect match for a suit. Pants were shown from skinnies with piping down the front and zippered ankles, to menswear-inspired trousers, to shorts paired with tights. For any military-inspired collection, blazers are necessary, and Roy showed them in fun florals, cropped, and oversized in leather.

The hair and makeup for the collection were simple and feminine. Hair was pulled back and makeup was kept fresh with rosy lips.

Rachel Roy’s Pre-Fall 2010 Collection is a perfect match of her signature feminine silhouettes with masculine detailing giving women something new and fresh to add to their wardrobes. More highlights from the collection below (Images courtesy of Style.com).

Rachel Roy for Grey Goose and Clothes Off Our Back Foundation

By Kimberly

GREY GOOSE, the “World’s Best Tasting Vodka,” joins forces with renowned fashion designer, Rachel Roy, to create a chic and sophisticated hat to be worn exclusively at the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 2nd at Churchill Downs.

Brooke Shields will lend support by donning the custom-designed hat.  After the races, the hat will be autographed by the designer, Rachel Roy and actress, Brooke Shields and auctioned on the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation website (www.clothesoffourback.org) on May 3rd through May 16th. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit The Barnstable-Brown Foundation to support diabetes research.

This will be the second time critically acclaimed designer, Rachel Roy, partners with GREY GOOSE in a design collaboration. Roy previously designed signature cocktail dresses now worn by the brand’s spokesmodels at GREY GOOSE sponsored events across the country, making the custom designed derby hat a natural extension of the partnership.

In addition to the auction of the designer hat, Derby fans can enjoy the Run for the Roses cocktail which will be the official GREY GOOSE Vodka cocktail served at the Kentucky Derby for the fifth year running.  Run for the Roses is a refreshing alternative to the Mint Julep as well as a tasty libation to serve guests at any Kentucky Derby celebration, while at the races or watching from home.

3 parts GREY GOOSE® L’Orange flavored vodka

2 parts peach brandy
