LUXE VS. MUST: Sonia Rykiel’s Pre-Fall Collection and Sonia Rykiel pour H&M

By Jessica

To the dismay of die-hard fashionistas, winter’s freezing temperatures call for clothing that keeps you warm but prevents you from looking cool. Leave it to the Queen of Parisian chic, Sonia Rykiel, to turn that stereotype on its head in both her latest collections.

Sonia Rykiel’s fabu-LUXE Pre-Fall collection renders a symphony of emboldened designs in unexpected hues like soft pink and fire-engine red. Her line of well-fitting suits, sheath dresses, structured pants and even overalls is defined by a lively yet decidedly feminine mystique.

Ruffles dance around the neckline of knit blouses, offering a quaint, ladylike touch while multicolor art nouveau prints energize the front of a black sweater dress. Accessories like cowboy hats and leather gloves add a touch of glamour and new-school sophistication.

In her MUST-have knit collection for H&M, Rykiel infuses each knitwear piece with verve, energy and attitude. Her spirited designs range from a pair of oversized overalls, worn with an off-the-shoulder striped shirt, to a rainbow-hued striped sweater dress that renders a cacophony of color.

The modern collection, designed for women and girls 1.5 to 8 years old, is brimming with imaginative styles like studded berets and shirts with cool graphic designs.

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M will be available in Sonia Rykiel boutiques and H&M stores on February 20, 2010.

For more information on Sonia Rykiel’s Pre-Fall collection, visit Sonia Rykiel.

Gemela Amor: Sunglasses for Your Inner Rockstar

By Jessica

Sunglasses are the fashion accessory most commonly associated with being bad-ass. However, not since the advent of Gemela Amor by coco&breezy has that correlation been more apropos.

The popular line of sunglasses epitomizes cool with designs made for rule-breaking, shit-talking tough girls—and the not-so-tough girls who don’t want to look like they ran from bullies in high school. Futuristic arrangements of studs, spikes and even chains flank the sides and front of the shades, giving them a hard, urban edge that could make Ugly Betty a rockstar.

Ironically, the designers behind sunglasses fit for the coolest kid in school grew up as outcasts in their hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Coco and Breezy, 19 year-old identical twins, wore shades to block themselves from taunting classmates. Once they designed a custom-made collection of eyewear and named it for their bond (“Gemela” means twins and “Amor “ signifies love), the twins became overnight celebrities.

Since the twins set their sights on the fashion industry and bravely moved to New York City, they have enjoyed a whirlwind of fame and success. Gemela Amor sunglasses are a favorite of fashion stylists and tastemakers, and have been worn by celebrities like Amber Rose, Kelly Osbourne and Vanessa Simmons.

For more information and to shop the collection, visit Coco & Breezy.

Elegance + Edge + Accessories = CC SKYE

By Samantha

Malibu-5

CC SKYE is not just a fabulous accessories line, it is also a lifestyle for the edgy and fun sophisticate. Having worked for CC SKYE previously, I can tell you first hand that the brand encompasses truly stunning, unique pieces and is a fabulous product of the designer, CC. Each collection is full of elegance and femininity with a bit of roughness and edge, making it a statement item that compliments an outfit and completes it.

CC’s love for design began on a six-month study-abroad journey in Kathmandu. While she learned so much from the Shamans and lifestyle there, the clothing wasn’t much to her liking, so she decided to make her own. In Nepal, she was able to slow down and learn to use her hands for her own benefit. From there, back in the hustle and bustle of Southern California, she re-discovered her love for jewelry making while in Downtown Los Angeles, and before her eyes, a line was born full of metals and lustrous leathers. She began with eponymous screw bracelets, (funky costume jewelry), and then expanded into a luxe handbag collection.

CC’s hometown is Malibu, California, where she is able to marry the laid-back look of the beach lifestyle with up and coming trends to create pieces that are both wearable and versatile, all whilst making a glam statement.

CC SKYE is sold in over 800 stores worldwide and most recently was nominated for “Best New Accessory Designer” by GenArt. Full of luxurious, fun and trend-setting pieces it’s a line to love and lust for.

ccskye1Celebrity fans of the line include Nicole Richie, Rihanna, Michelle Trachtenberg, Hilary Duff, Eva Mendes and Kristin Cavalleri, just to name a few. The jewelry ranges from $100-$250 and the handbags average from $300 to $700.

By Faith

missrubysue 1

The delightful creations of Miss Ruby Sue are truly a breath of fresh air. Started by Lori Ward, the line features beautiful handmade accessories, some of which are done with real vintage jewelry.

Lori began the line when she knew she had a knack for creating beautiful, bright feel-good pieces. Initially she designed items for her daughters …in time she realized her abilty for design could be a business.

Lori’s pieces channel the girliness and femininity of years past and tell a story. They are extremely affordable, with prices starting at $20. If you like uniqe, then Lori’s look is all you. Miss Ruby Sue even debuted on ABC’s “The View”, looks like we’ll be seeing Miss Ruby Sue elsewhere real soon. Enjoy.
