Helmut Lang, perfect pieces for now and Spring
By Sophie

Austrian-born designer Helmut Lang began his fashion career in the 80’s, and has since risen to admirable fame and artistic status in the fashion world. His most recent ready to wear Spring 2010 collection falls nothing short of simplistic elegance.
In the collection, there are loads of looks that combine draping in the pants and fitted jackets on top. Denim is definitely a bonus in this collection, and is seen in everything from pants to shorts (with leggings underneath) and button-down shirts.

Ranjana Khan Spring 2010
By Faith

Ranjana Khan creates some of the most coveted jewelry pieces in the industry today. Her creations are timeless, elegant, and are truly in a league of their own.
Her Spring 2010 Collection, “Faded Opulence”, takes inspiration from historic jewelry and the fallen aristocrats who at some point owned that jewelry. The pieces are combined in a unique, yet beautiful way mixing chains, flowers, crystals, and so much more. Khan created many stories in her imagination of women piecing together the last of their precious jewels in order to create new pieces.
In order to achieve the look demonstrated in the line, Khan used a series of very intricate and clever techniques from burning crystals and the petals of silk flowers to stringing together baroque river pearls in a very impromptu way. One of Khan’s central ideas is to always create a alluring blend of contrasts which makes her pieces truly exceptional.
Ranjana Khan’s Spring 2010 Collection is for women who love that old-world appeal and who think of their accessories as the jewels of their eyes. More highlights from the collection below.

Eleonore Santos Garden Party
By Leah
Eleonore Santos, is burgeoning in the fashion world considering her twenty-two year old age. Don’t be fooled by her youth …this very humble lady already graced the style files at events of Rock Povera, Pop Noir, and the recent Project Ethos. Her creative juices surfaced during her high school days, when she magically created her own prom dress. Inspired by American Apparel and the 80’s, Santos expresses a hip vibe for the gal that likes to show a little leg.
Santos Garden Party collection debuted at Project Ethos Saturday October 24th and was everything imaginable for a whimsical, romantic style. She describes it, “As wanting to stay away from mainstream fashion.” Flowers adorned hair only furthering fun and flirty dressing (AKA, bubble dresses and rompers) is back. And for Santos the blue bubble dress with petal-like layers is the favored choice from this collection.

Designer Diary Part Two: The Kara Ross Team
By Faith

Hey guys, it’s Allison from the production team at Kara Ross. Working as an intern, I take on an array of different responsibilities throughout the company—running to Bergdorf’s or the jeweler manufacturer, updating the website, helping with clients, shipping products and meeting stylists, all the while learning about the very special stones and skins used here at Kara Ross.
I think the best part about working here is seeing the design process come to life. It’s amazing where our team gets its ideas! Inspiration sparks a design, which has to be refined and reviewed several times to ensure the quality and distinctiveness. Then it’s off to the manufacturer for production. There is a rush of excitement throughout the office once the samples of jewelry and handbags come in. Last Friday, we were able to debut the line to editors from magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Town and Country and Cosmopolitan. Despite the rain, the day was very busy with editors coming in and out to see the new collection. We received a lot of great and positive feedback on our fine and boutique jewelry as well as our handbags.
We are always busy here in the office, especially since stores are about to receive our Resort 2009 collection. Although it’s only September 2009, we’re showing Spring/Summer 2010 styles for this year’s Fashion Week as well as refining the Fall/Winter 2010 line that will arrive in February. One of my favorite new pieces of the upcoming spring boutique collection is the resin and gold bracelet with amethyst stones (to the right). The look is unlike anything I have ever seen before and the amethyst stones make the bracelet pop for any outfit!
Another new must-have for spring is the Italian Weave Taci clutch. It is a beautiful white bag with new tab hardware and pearlized white python. It is an oversized clutch making it perfect for all a girls’ necessities. I can’t wait to order my own and I’m excited to see your responses to our fabulous new styles that I know you’ll love.
