Ports 1961 Fall 2010 with the Cast of MTV's "The City"

By Jessica

Can you keep a secret? The Ports 1961 show, well snippets atleast, may end up on MTV! The crowd was abuzz with rumors that MTV was taping The City’s Whitney Port, Roxy and Joe Zee for the upcoming season. A crew filmed them walking into the Promenade at Bryant Park (where the show was held) and absorbing the beautiful fashions.

And beautiful fashion, it was! Across the runway from the reality stars, I was enraptured by every exquisite, elegant piece. For the Fall 2010 collection, designer Tia Cibani took inspiration from “the relationship between discovery and invention.” The design aesthetic was rooted in a cluster of dichotomies: “the old and the new, the classic and the experimental.” The menswear detailing and rich yet muted color palette embraced time-honored tradition while the architectural shapes, innovative textiles and digital prints embodied the look of the future.

The accessories were just as spellbinding with glazed ceramic necklaces and ornate jeweled details that added a touch of warmth and femininity to the collection. Since Ports 1961 always delivers tailored, classic pieces, it was lovely to see Tia Cibani incorporate the futuristic style du jour without sacrificing the brand’s signature style.

And what I wouldn’t give to be one of the models? They looked modern and cool with free, wild, messy curls which presented a welcome contrast to the rigid, geometric shapes.

The show started with a touching tribute to fallen fashion icon, Alexander McQueen, where the crowd of editors, buyers and fashion lovers took a moment of silence in his honor.

After the show, we learned that several editors are heading to London early in light of Alexander McQueen’s death. The tent was abuzz with memories of the designer and admiration for his brilliance, vision and fearlessness in fashion design. While I could sing Alexander McQueen’s praises all day, I had to escape to grab something to eat (my first meal of the day) before the Heart Truth show—and I had to do it quickly…which reminds me of the petition I plan to write to Fashion Week planners, which goes a little something like this:

Dear Fashion Week planners: can we incorporate time for lunch or at least have snacks inside the Tents? They will go a long way in stopping me from passing out due to hunger by the end of the last show. Thank you.

Since I escaped for lunch, I missed the red carpet of Heart Truth but arrived just in time for the superfun show. Stay tuned for the inside scoop! (Teaser: I met my crush, Reggie Bush).

Urban Fashion for City Girls

By Zoe
Whitney Eve

Whitney Eve

I’m a recent convert from The Hills to The City, opting for concrete sunsets and baggy-eyed bosses rather than Spencer’s ridiculous banter and celebrity approved power shakes. Now being a City aficionado, I just must blog about Whitney Port’s Fall/Winter ‘09 collection. Dubbed Whitney Eve, her line defines the modern girl on the go, whether that means booking the NYLA route or click clocking those stilettos to your nine to fine.

In March 2008, Whitney launched her debut line showcasing pieces from cotton tees to cocktail dresses, as well as blazers and coats to be mixed and matched for any occasion. And she’s maturing. Quickly.

Port’s collection is colourful, sexy and chic, and it’s a definite yes how all that California pulp was squeezed out, leaving her with a much more urban style. So there’s another reason to set your TiVo.

Whitney Eve is available at Nordstrom and Barneys and several high-end boutiques around the country including Scoop, Kitson, Planet Blue and Dash in Miami.

Whitney Port Steps Out in Sretsis While Filming in Central Park

By Ariella

whitneyOn August 6th, one of our favorite MTV stars looked particularly stunning on set while filming the next season of “The City.” Whitney Port, who made her debut as LC’s intern BFF on “The Hills”, is always sporting the next up-and-coming designer or trend, so we were not at all surprised to see her wearing items from the Sretsis Spring 2009 collection. This brand, started by three sisters (“Sretsis” spells “sisters” backwards!), incorporates bows, ruffle-detailing, and ballet- and garden-party inspired frocks fit for any girly glamazon. The line is sweet with a rebellious twist, and is perfect for any girl that loves to dress up but doesn’t take herself too seriously. The brand’s tongue-in-cheek attitude is a result of the shared history and humor of this terrific trio. Sretsis’ vibrant Spring collection is inspired by sweetness, rebellion, and combines a modern twist with the old fashioned, making for a collection that would make Mom and Dad proud.
